Lowered, Ground Effects... how the hell do I jack this thing up?
Hey guys, I just got some new pads/rotors and I went to work on it this morning but had a hell of a time finding some way to get the jack to lift the car. I'm lowered 1 1/4" and have the factory ground effects. I have this floor jack:
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-h...ump-61282.html And I can't even BEGIN to sniff a safe jack point on the frame using this guide: http://www.moderncamaro.com/forum/414028-post14.html I mocked up a pinch weld brace to use with the jack this morning to get it high enough for a jack stand, but when working on it I couldn't break the caliper bolts and didn't feel at all comfortable with how I had it lifted to put a bunch of force into it. Those of you with ground effects and are lowered, how do you go about getting a safe lift on your car to get some real work done without fear? Maybe I just haven't spent enough time under a car, but growing up spoiled as hell with a garage with a two post lift has me fairly uncertain about lifting a car in my driveway. (I'd go use that garage but it's 1300 miles away)

you have to drive up on wood and gradually work your way up but with that jack i would say throw a 2x4 or 2x6 in front of the wheels and pull up on those and that should give you the clearance. You should youtube some clips of slammed cars getting in and our of driveways those are always funny to watch. Im almost 2" down with a splitter so I'm on the lower side but still manageable in most situations.

Those points you have are for a scissor jack that may or may not of come with your car .. 2nd search this forum and there a link with the proper points for a floor jack and where to put the stands , ( I would try too put always fail at trying to post a link ) if you try to jack up your car with the points for a scissor jack, you are going to have some new mods alright and not like them ,as it will damage your car .

Get a good low profile hydraulic jack. I have the gfx as well and am able to jack up the car at the front crossmember. I use a small section of 2x4 on the jack pad after I roll the jack under the car to provide some extra lift height to get going, and to keep the crossmember from getting scratched.

yea like Sandor stated, a low profile hydrolic jack wins every time. I picked up mine from Harbor Freight real cheap for less than a bill I think and its good for SUV's. I've had it for at least 2 yrs.

I used low profile jacks and still need 2x6's. At the shop on the lifts, they usually have to use ramps or jack up the rear at the diff for my car. I have to use 2x6's on my driveway to get my car into and out of the garage , but it looks so good being lowered.

Might suck for handling, I don't know, but I wonder if an adjustable air bag suspension could be used to raise and lower the car a little depending on the situation.
They do it on bikes sometimes. Lower it down when you want to look good, get up on the highway and raise it up a little for comfort. Just thinking out loud here, not really a solution that has their car built already.
