Clunk in the rear...help
So my 13 zl1 with 9k miles has a clunk in the rear seems like even passenger side. I hear it mostly when freely rolling say up to a stop and have some bumps in the roadway. Sounds like something clunking. Almost like sway bar links but Id say a little more apparent. I havent noticed anything at speed or when the drivetrain is under load. Is there a bushing thats known for going bad? I recently bumped up to around 650whp running 15psi and an ls9 cam. I'm not hard on my car and dont launch it hard at all. But it did have 7500 miles on it when I got it and had new rubber in the rear.
Any suggestions? |

I have a clunk noise in my rear too that I have not been able to track down. I can very easily make the noise by rolling at idle from a stop and simply applying the brake quickly. I have been beating on the car all last summer with the noise there and still haven't found it. I am around the same power.

Check your exhaust for split welds on the hangers.. Lift your car and use a rubber mallet to tap the pipes. I've had to do this a few times. Hope this helps.

I had considered it could be the exhaust moving around. Its definately more apparent when there is the seem in the concrete and one section has sunk a little causing an inch or so drop. I thought it was the suspension quickly unloading and loading up causing a clunk in a worn bushing or something. But could absolutely be the exhaust clunking on something. Will look into it, thanks!

There are several more for different reasons each, but I am not going to search them all out. I know talking with some GM race engineers warned above 650RWHP expect the twisting on the rear to also destroy them over time.

You can inspect the upper inner rears with a mirror and a light and you should. The first thing I would do is lay a wrench on every nut and bolt in the rear suspension to make sure they are all tight, but that is just me. |
