ZL1 GETTING BACKUP CAMERA?!
1)In this pic, right above license plate is camera of some sorts, maybe for backing up so you can watch out. OR maybe for watching the reaction of the guy driving the gt500 behind you ......................................
BUT WHERE IS THE SCREEN TO WATCH IT?! I didn't see one in the interior pics at all! 2)See? I see no screen at all? |

I just don't see one though... Cause I've seen a little screen in the rear view mirror. But usually don't you see a little dark square in the mirror? I did when I saw it in a buddy of mine's truck. But not seeing it on this camaro!

What he said.....I have one in the Terrain and it works well. Takes a bit of getting used to with the birds eye view but works effectively.

Don't get me wrong, I love the ZL1, but when you take on a competitor you have to do it to win it and the weight of this car could be it's downfall. Adding the camera just added weight. |

Yeah, that backup camera added weight, probably 2 pounds...if you are that concerned then you could always take out the floormats to offset that added weight...

tweeter,
I read that single Track and Driver test. They put the CTS-V at 12.3 in the 1/4 and the Shelby at 12.6. From the video I saw it wasn't done on a drag strip either so traction was an issue. Also the CTS-V was the automatic IIRC. Who knows, test data is only as accurate and unbiased as the writers. My point is, of what advantage does the camera add and to the OP who stated it was to see the Shelby is yet to be seen. The ZL1 is an incredible car, but does it really need a camera? I am a die hard Camaro fan and hope it outperforms the GT500 in all areas, but I'd hate to see it loose because of weight like the SS does versus the GT. I know GM went to great lengths to keep the weight down on the ZL1 (hood, wheels, etc), so why add something like a camara which gives it no performance gain whatsoever. Hey it's just something I find silly on a sportscar, minivan maybe but sportscar, no. |

It is getting a camera because the Feds are mandating backup cameras.

Here's my question, is there really such a rampant occurence of people backing over small pets & young kids that the government really felt the need to step in and say, "hey now, all cars should have back-up cameras now for safety," because last I checked, I was fairly certain that kind of accident is still pretty low.
Or are people just so damn lazy now that they don't want to turn their head and look where they're maneuvering their vehicle? Back up camera and back up sensors. Overkill. Yes, even on your Travers, f5journal.

We have both on our Equinox (except the viewer is in the nav screen) and let me tell you it really helps.
