Painting engine cover, fuse box.
So after reading and seeing tons of people painting their covers. I decided i would give it a try. I went to autozone and got dupli-color matching paint. I've spray painted many objects so i know the technique, well...
I cleaned the fuse box with dish soap, dryed it off then used isopropyl alcohol to finish it off and i let it dry for 20 minutes. After fighting with the broken nozzel that came with my can. Put a new nozzel on and off i went... One coat... 10 min wait... Second coat... 10 min wait... Third co.. Wth? Cracking? ok.. What did i do wrong? So i just peeled it all right off and i'm scratching my head. I see most didn't sand or prime.. So what's the deal? It looked so good! Can anyone help me, or come paint these for me! Lol |

Try the Krylon Fusion paint for plastic that is what I used. I sprayed mine with a light coat of white before my color to help lighten up the undercoat from the black. I also let my plastics dry for 24 hours after cleaning them BEFORE painting.

Hmmm krylon fusion.. Does it come in victory red? If so would autozone, checker, home depot carry it? Nice waste of $10 for this dupli-color. lol - or atleast a red close enough. Also, what about painting a few interior plastics red? Lots of sanding i take it?

Sand, clean, spray with adhesion promoter, then 2 coats of primer, sand, clean, then a few coats of color, sand, clean then a few coats of clear.
I used rustoleum on parts I painted 2 years ago, all looks great still. I think the adhesion promoter is where you went wrong. Also, if you didn't get all the soap off it will make the paint kind of go crazy on the surface. Sand it down where the paint went crazy and try again. That adhesion promoter is an important step. I've never used fusion but it sounds too ford for me |

I used their bright yellow with the white under coat, it is very close but not a perfect match it you hold next to the car. I got it a Wally World ( Walmart )
"Too close to FORD", LOL. That is only way to get a Ford fast you have to paint it on a Camaro!! |

What grit were you using when you sanded?

I used Dawn dish soap. Now as far as sanding goes are we talking 600 grit? What would be a good clear coat and primer? Also etmx, do you have any pics you could post of yours?
