Mineral deposits in engine bay - any ideas?

Most of us have the same issue if we daily drive our cars. I clean out my engine bay every two washes, so even though it looks clean, it doesn't look *detailed* and here's why:

Ever look at the nooks and crannies of your engine bay (such as the side of the fuse box, the compartments that border around the stock intake, or the deep pits in the radiator shroud) and see the white crusty deposits that are real tough to remove?

It's more of an OCD thing if anything since it's not a big deal, but I still would like to know if there is a chemical out there that can break down the calcium and minerals that build up in the hard to reach areas so that I can restore them back to like new. The question is not so much whether or not there is a chemical that can do it, it's more of a question as to whether or not the chemical can do it without damaging the plastic trim.

I don't think a degreaser is meant for it. It calls for a chemical that reverses an electrolyte bond, since most of this stuff looks like calcium or magnesium. Or do you think maybe steam cleaning will weaken the bond of the built up minerals?

I don't know what will help clean the mineral deposits, but once it's clean checkout these Adam's products to keep it clean.

Try a solution of vinegar & water or a CLR or Lime Away type product.

I was going to say CLR. Vinegar and Water might do the trick too and you can control how strong it is.

I was thinking of using something like CLR or Lime Away... I'm worried that might damage the plastic, though. I'll test it on an inconspicuous spot and see if it works.

Yeah, vinegar/water is able to reverse electrolyte bonds and neutralize the PH - that's how it usually knocks out water spots, afterall.

In fact, I'll try the vinegar first. If it doesn't work, then I'll use a dedicated lime/calcium remover such as Lime Away or CLR.
