How much a difference is the 6 to an 8

How much of a difference in timing is the v6 to a v8?

I am trying to do some quick research before I officially trade my 6 for an 8 so try to bare with me here guys/gals

Track times would be nice... But more for "street" racing is what I am curious about (I am not talking about dragging on the street, my buddy has a airplane runway in his back yard that is about 1/4 mile. It is very much like a street in the sense that its not sticky like a track)

1) How much of a difference is it going from a pretty full bolted on v6 (Long tube headers/hi flow cats/ported intake manifold/manifold insulator/plenum spacer/CAI intake/Tune/MRT 1 Catback) to a STOCK v8. Is it "close" in a race?

2) How much of a difference is it going from full bolted V6 to a bolted V8 (V8 should consist of cold air intake/new headers/tune if possible)

I dont have any friends with a 8 so I can't actually compare....

They aren't even comparable, especially on the street where you usually don't launch so skill isn't really a factor.

I mean, there has to be some kind of difference.... are you saying the v8 is THAT much better? Or that they are so close the same?

(If I wasnt confused to begin with then I wouldnt have posted this thread right?)

I mean, I am aware that a stock v8 would prob be like 50-70 hp more to the rear wheel, but I am not too sure HOW much different that is...

The V8 is a different animal. Even the L99 has 400 HP and 410 TQ stock. The V6 has like 278 TQ or something, right? This TQ difference is what you feel, and it was really noticeable to me. Once you start modding, it's hard to make a fair comparison, but the only way a V6 is gonna come close to the V8 is with a turbo or supercharger. Put the same mods on the V8, and the V8 will be an absolute monster.

Test drive some and see what you think. I liked my V6 when I had it, but trading it in for the V8 was 100% the right decision for me. I never looked back.

Compression, Torque, etc hold the V6 down below the V8. You can get some nice performance out of the V6, but it's not comparable to an LS3 or L99 at all.

mc_accoustic, you wanting a manual or auto? Go test drive one and find out for yourself b/c on here when it comes to the auto V8 some say it doesn't really feel all that much better....while some will have you believe the difference is like going to a Bugatti.

Really, just go find out for yourself. Of course its faster...but is it what you are expecting? Nobody here can tell you that.

Side note: You are posting new threads all the time asking about adding mods, how they will affect your car, and other random questions about your V6, and then suddenly your thinking V8? That's fine I guess but just amazes me sometimes. When I bought my V6 I knew what I was getting into, and I knew I wouldn't be upgrading. If you know from the beginning you want big power, just go V8 unless you are like very few here and want to put lots of work into a forced induction V6.

Don't know, never driven a 6er. I kind of think I would like to, just to see what it's like.

I have had both and the best way to describe it...When I first got the V6 getting on it from a standstill for the first time was great. Was fun and put a smile on my face. When i got the v8 stomping on it from a stand still scared the shit outta me. No joke. It took me some getting used to it but seriously sometimes if im not careful it will get out from under me

It's a good thing that the new Camaros don't actually have a lot of torque, then. You'd have been petrified!

Test drove both. Big difference in the 8 versus the 6. If your whole aim is to go faster, then get the 8. You will not be happy otherwise.
