Magnaflow 3" cat back dyno results!!

The setup has the most beautiful sound but as Andy and I suspected it will net you NOTHING in terms of power.

BASELINE PULL 4:16 pm NETed 368HP / 375TQ (STOCK CALIBRATION with 800 miles)

3" EXHAUST PULL 4:58 NETed 369HP / 373TQ

Coming up tomorrow, OFF ROAD Down Pipes make a pull. Then install ADM's Free Flow Intake make a pull. After we have documented these changes on the STOCK CALIBRATION we will adjust the timing tables and dial in the PE to get the most from all these modifications.

For those looking for the best exhasut setup available the 3" Magnaflow is the bomb and it has a wonderful tone. I have a couple videos and a graph but I'm too damn lazy to load them tonight. I will get all the PRETTY STUFF loaded tomorrow !

1st Pull - Stock Calibration Stock Exhaust BASELINE 368/375
2nd Pull - Stock Calibration with 3" Magnaflow full catback 369/373
3rd Pull - Stock Calibration with 3" Magnaflow (HOT LAP PULL) 369/372
FOUND THE MOTIVATION TO GET IT TOGETHER FOR Y'ALL

Stock Calibration with Stock Exhaust

Stock Calibration with Magnaflow 3" full catback with x-pipe

Exhaust shot with a few revs in the garage.

We suspected this as well. We installed the 2.5" Magnaflow system a few weeks ago and it really did not gain much if anything at all. I wonder if the L99's gain more with a catback ?

I have the L99 and installed the same 3 inch cat back. I am having it tested tomorrow. I will post and let you know. I have a baseline of 342 rwhp with a Roto Fab CAI. Should be interesting. Magnaflow claims 12-14 hp gain on the 2.5 inch cat back system.

The sound is sweet though! Super easy install, but I did have access to a lift. Took me and a friend and hour and a half.

unless your making over 500hp the 3" is overkill and you wont see much gain, the 2.5 is the way to go. if your going to build some real power then go with a 3" and do a custom tune and make some real power.

That's why I don't like the 3" , the 2.5'' would make difference on the dyno even with stock Calibration (tested on some cars) but I still can't understand why is everybody interested in the 3" !!!
BTWthis is the best sound I've ever heard on the new Camaro .

Honestly, I don't think there is much to gain with any aftermarket catback. The stock design is pretty much a straight through design and not much of a restriction at all. The small gains or losses one would see by going aftermarket shouldn't be a deciding factor in your choice. It is more for looks and sound and the magnaflow systems have both

The L99 will probably be the one making gains with a catback. The L99's mufflers are different from the LS3's. The LS3's mufflers are a straight through design while the L99 mufflers are crazy looking on the inside to deal with the AFM noises.
The L99 also comes with 2 extra resonators.

I have seen some dyno sheets where guy have made decent gains by going muffler delete.

It will be interesting to see the dyno results from some other catbacks. This (no gain) may be limited to just the Magnaflow catback?

Its hard to tell on a clip, but are they much sound difference in the 3" vs the
2.5 magnaflows?

The point to my post and thread was that not a single exhaust system will net any significant improvements and that an OFF-ROAD pipe would net the gain. The Magnaflow 3" is the LEAST RESTRICTIVE mufflered system available and it provided NOTHING REALLY on the STOCK CALIBRATION. It could net someting with tuning the timing and PE.

Andy ran short on time in the shop and my car got shoved to next week for toying with the exhaust and air box for dyno testing on the STOCK CALIBRATION and then seeing what can be gained in the timing and PE fine tuning.

Here are my results with a Roto Fab CAI comparison to the Roto Fab+Magna Flow 3" cat back on a L99. One graph is a low to best comp and the second is a best to best comp. The avg was a 10 hp gain.
