I am 99.9% sure that the Camaro rear is the same as the G8 rear. If that is so, there is NO aftermarket ring and pinion out there. Not in the US and not in Aus.

Your choices are 2.92, 3.27, 3.45, 3.90 and that's it. For now.
3.70's also, that's what comes in the G8 GXP M6's.

You will now be referred to as "bog boy". Seriously though, your 4th gen didn't have a .57 6th gear!

D'oh!!!

I meant to type 3.70, but after thinking about 3.90s, that's what I typed instead.

True. It had a .50 6th gear.

It does this to account for various factors such as the weight of the car deforming the tire slightly, which makes the actual height shorter. This calculator will probably provide you a more accurate answer than others that do not use this conversion factor. Notice this one says your top speed in 3rd is 110.1 mph. Also notice how every single test so far has put the trap speed in the 1/4 at 110-111. I've never seen so many tests on one car with such close numbers. I'm assuming that's because at about 111, the rev limiter kicks in, and the testers are running it straight to the limiter to avoid shifting into 4th, which would make the 1/4 times slower. So yeah, raisng the rev limiter to about 6900 would probably net you some faster times/higher trap speeds.
I don't believe the deformation of the tire from the weight is that much of a factor at all. I've verified the normal calculators without that variable and have verified their accuracy to less than .5 mph @ 75 mph using datalogs and my radar gun.

Something tells me that the aftermarket will find a way to accommodate the Camaro owners rather quickly.

I read somewhere on here that the rears are in fact different. Not sure, but I know I read it. I also inquired with a few aftermarket "rear" guys and they said they were looking into it so I'd be willing to bet that stuff is coming.

As for my choice, I would go with a 3.90 in a heartbeat if they become available. With that 28.68" tall tire, and the 5th & 6th gear, It will still cruise nicely at 80mph and I plan on FI. If I were staying NA, I wouldnt hesitate to go with 4.10s or 4.30s though. But in the end, if all we have available is 3.70, I'll still do it

Some food for thought for those of you who have not done a gear change before. I did 4.10's on my '99 SS M6. The performance improvement was noticable and fun. However, after living with it for awhile, I am not sure I will do it again. First, I was lucky and never had gear whine from my car, but at LEAST half the people I knew at the time who changed gears did. Second, I just got sick of shifting it so much! The change in rear end gearing causes you to move through each gear faster, and during normal driving, means that you have to shift more often. Don't get me wrong, I love rowing my own gears (all of my Camaros have had manual transmissions) but it was kind of irritating.

I will drive the car for awhile before making any changes, but if I do change them, I won't go for the more extreme gear ratios...maybe 3.73 or 3.90.

Keep in mind that the G8 (Commodore VE, Zeta) has been sold in Aus since '06. There are a lot of them out there. There are no companies making gears for them.

This is the same (essentially) chassis.

Just don't be surprised if there is a biiiiggggg lag in aftermarket support for certain items.

Pedders is listing the same diff bushings for the Camaro as the G8.

Pedders is working with GM Racing on their Camaro.

I would love some aftermarket gear choices.

You are correct in saying the G8's have been around since 06, but they dont have the following that the Camaro does. With the return of the Camaro the aftermarket is already blowing up for the car and its not event released to public yet. I think the G8 crowd is about to recieve alot of upgrades due to the Camaro.
