Question What effect will this part have on the aftermarket intakes?

Depending on the Z/28 intake price/availability.... it could be trouble.

Or maybe the aftermarket will make something similar/better.

Maybe the aftermarket can make an intake and a reservoir relocation kit to allow the hood seal to follow the outer edge?

That intake is pretty cool for a stock system but it can still be improved upon. There is still a lot going on there that is disrupting airflow.

I can't disagree with you on the technical aspects. You are far more experienced than I am.

But if they price it at say $250 then it may not matter much. Any idea what the stock ZL1 intake goes for?

At least GM learned something with this design. It's very close to what many of the aftermarket CAI's look like. They left that damn accordian section in though. The only thing different I see for the aftermarket companies is to figure out how to mount their box. Is the MAF section the same diameter as ours?

This fits the LS7, don't know if it will exactly line up for the LS3

I don't see it having any impact on aftermarket parts - the z/28 will comprise the smallest part of the camaro market with a limited number being built and that design doesn't look near as good as the closed box ones from adm and cai

Nice integrated catch can. Looks like one line each from the valve covers and one from the valley.

Has anyone seen an pics of this intake out of the car?

I'd like to know what the bottom and front look like.

I wouldn't be concerned with this. Yes, it's an open element unit, but it's still stock. Like Chase and others have said, it's still disrupting airflow. That accordion section will cause turbulence in there and won't allow a straight flow of air. It's better than the big, clunky, restrictive boxes on the V6, SS and ZL1's, but there are better aftermarket units out there.

The Ford Shelby Cobra has been using a similar design for years, as factory equipment.

Still terribly inefficient.
