Led lights under the engine cover

Hey everyone need some help, i want to install some light strips in my engine cover. My idea is to cut into the cover and install a clear item like plexi glass or actual glass and install the lights underneath so that lights show through. Issue i am running into is plexiglass melts at 300 degrees but has flex, actual glass can handle heat temps but may not have as much flex resulting in cracking over time. Done some searches but cannot seem to find anything else. I have thought about using steel mesh but then it will block some of the lights and it won't look as nice. And I don't think the insulation in the engine cover will be enough to protect plexi glass. But the lights seem to be fine which makes no sense as I have seen many cars with lights installed under the cover. Any suggestions
