Chicago License Plates

Chicago Problems with plates

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bad news for you who park in city garages in chicago. Mayor Daley needs money so bad they are actually sending ticket writers into the public parking garages and walking around the cars to check out front plates and plastic covers on back plates. $50.00 ticket. Thats insane, If they think Im going to put a front plate on this they got another thing coming. The ordinance covering window stickers was amended to allow license plate infractions in public garages. So be careful or rigg the plate up on the grill while your parked there with some plastic ties and take it off before you leave. What a pain right. Saw a vette that rigged something up yesterday after I got a ticket on my other car a caddy for no front plate.

Here's what I'm using on the front -

And covers (front and back w/ locking fasteners) -

I've secured the plates because I don't want them stolen (Route 66/vanity). As far as ticketing in a garage that's NOT owned by the city I don't think they can write a ticket unless invited in by the garage owner... or can they?

ticketing clarification

the ticket can be issued because they expanded the ordinance from just window sticker violations to include license plate infractions in any public parking garage licensed by the city which means all of them are game. The theory is that they claim there is a presumption that if you are parked in a parking garage that you transversed on a public road to get there so therefore they can write you the ticket if they find your car in the garage.

I'm staying away from any parking garages in general. I only take mine to work (secure area) and places I can watch her. No front plate here, crossing my fingers!

I still think Daley should pick up the tab for Air Force One's fuel and crew for the boondoggle to Copenhagen. So now that he won't be able to make money on the olympics, he can pick on us Camaro and Vet owners!

okay so I took a look at the Altec remote electric plate that comes out from under the bumper with a push of the button electrically. Real James Bond stuff but it really doesnt look like it would last very long. nice concept but I think it should be made out of stainless steel and have a cover on the motor to insulate from the elements. Might do okay in a warm climate though. I might give it a try after I get my first ticket with the camaro

jxmot ...
Does this attach in the center of your vehicle ... or off to the side? Also, do you know if it would work with the Ground FX package on the 2SS?
Thanks!

it screws in from underneath, just needs something to screw into, In the SS model, would have to drill a hole going up from the underside of the yellow that flows back toward the radiator. I guess two screws would be needed. I saw that it can be placed to one side or the other if need be but I guess it could also go in the middle. If you got ground effects, and you go over a parking stop I think you might tear it off
