Radar/Laser Detectors

Okay - What kind of detectors are you planning to put in your cars?

I just picked up the Valentine 1 and want to see what other people are going to be doing.

I have a escort 9500. I had a Valentine 1, until it was stolen. Both are excellent units.

My advice - put the detector on the passenger side visor, and hardwire it to power at the rearview mirror. Do not leave it in the bottom of the winshield, or it will be stolen.

Here is what a bunch of people think:

Some are a little old but most of the detectors they talk about are still being sold

laser is pretty much unavoidable - unless the guy is zapping cars 1/8 mile down the road (very difficult for the operator) and the beam is getting some side scatter...

I've operated a couple laser units the local cops have - and when the trigger gets pulled that's it.
THere's no time to react. If you're the target you're a gone-er.

The issue with laser is it takes a bit of operator effort. The Ka "Stalker" type radar is easier to use. Mount it on the dashboard, turn it on and drive the patrol car around. When someone is faster that then should be they get pulled over. And your radar detector picks up the signal from far away. Thats how you get saved.

PS - on topic - I own a V1

Is it legal to have a radar/laser jammer in NY? because I got it from this website but I wanted to have a NY Police officers opinion. http://www.1stradardetectors.com/rad...ector-laws.php
