How does GM choose?

I'm wondering how GM decides what orders to fill in what order? I have seen several people on here talking about already having a vin # that placed their orders after the date I placed mine! I ordered a 2lt rs w/sunroof at the end of May... And my dealer still has no info for me! The dealer has gone through about 15 camaros now none of which are mine!!

Ask your dealer when he will get an ALLOCATION for your car. If he can't tell you I would order from another dealer, or look for a dealer with inventory @ MSRP.
If the dealer has no info for you, its because he doesn't want to give you any info. Ask for a WORKBENCH copy to see if your order has even been placed. If your workbench says your a 1100, your order is in the sales managers desk. If its @ 2000, G.M. has accepted it and your car should get built. Good luck.

I had that same exact order and mine took almost 10 months! Anyhoo I've talked to several people that work at the Oshawa plant and when your build number comes up on the computer, it comes up! They don't do any one kind or color in batches. It is all random. Now, if the dealer has no info for you at all such as a build number itself, that means he has no allocation, and it is time to move on! Hope yours get built sooner rather than later!

I contacted my Sales Manager and he says everything is moving but I'm sitting at 1100. I'm confused why it takes GM so long to accept the order. Does this mean that if there are 20 people who purchased a Camaro from that dealership that they have to get 20 allocations before they actually get to my car. If so, this sucks. They might be on the 2nd order of 20. Does this sound right?

you are correct.

My dealer was up front with me - there were 3 ahead of my order before mine was placed. He showed me the queue and how all of them were moving through the system. (I don't expect your salesperson to show you the same thing) - I have bought a LOT of vehicles from him over 10 years, and have a really good relationship with the dealer.

You should be able to ask where you are in the queue - how many people are in front of you. They *should* be honest and give you an honest answer.

Every dealership is different - some have a larger allocation than others, so they can place orders for more cars. Trick is finding one.

kinda...
from what i was told the dealer gets allocations (i dont know monthly or weekly)
but what happens is lets say they have 10x1100 orders and you are no. 7th in the list...
when the next allocation rolls around and GM gives your dealership 5 allocation spots...
the first 5 1100 orders will be filled in that order...
that leaves you at no. 2 now for the next set of allocation...

hope that makes a little more sense...

but yeah alot of people are not very fond of this system since it should be a first come first served type of deal... but thats thier system... if your sales manager cant give you a clear indication of where you stand interms of order status and where you are in the 1100 list... then find another dealer... and make sure you ask them all the questions before switching...

Thanks for the info. I just sent my Sales Manager an email and asked him where I was in the 1100 Queue. It's weird because in the showroom they had a list of 1 -20 for Camaro orders, with all names filled in except the number 20 spot... until I ordered one and took the last spot. I'm hoping the other 19 have already received their cars...but I'm guessing if I'm still at 1100 probably not. I just hope they're close to that number 20. Thanks.

Your dealer has to have an allocation for YOUR order before it will be pulled by GM for production. Ask your dealer what # you are in their production list (dealerships private list). Then ask them how many allocations they get per month. That will tell you when your car will get pulled into production.

Say... you are #5 on your dealer's list. He gets 4 allocations per month in Sept. from GM. Your order won't be pulled until the Oct. allocations.

The GM month runs from the 15th til the 15th. Orders are pulled by GM on Monday night/Tues AM.

Where in the world did you order your Camaro from? You'll get yours in less than a month seems like. Good for you. What's your dealerships name and salesperson?

All of the allocation issue also depende on constraints/availability. If you are number 7 out of 10 and you are ordereing a V6 and the first 6 of allocation are SS models (on constraint), you will see your car first.

I'm having the same issue - being stuck at 1100 with cars going through everyday that were ordered after mine too...
SRVFAN - in regards to the 15th - the 15th of the month - so if I placed an order on 7/31 and it hasn't been picked up (presumably b/c my dealier lied and didn't have an allocation) then I'm sitting here waiting until 9/15 to see if they pick it up (since I'm still at 1100 today)??

Yes.

GM pulls the orders on Mon evening or Tues AM..

Say your dealership has 7 allocations for the month of Sept. There's 4 weeks in the month, but not all 7 allocations will be pulled at the same time... it varies.

Your dealer could have 3 taken the first week, 2 the next, none the third week & 2 in the last week. Or any combination. That's all up to GM. It all depends on where you sit in you dealerships allocation list as to which allocation you will get. Make sense? If you're allocation #7 say in this scenario, then your order won't get pulled by GM until the last week which would actually be the Mon/Tues of the week that the 15th falls in in Oct.

Hope that helped ya!

Lots of luck.

My car is sitting in Champaign, IL since 7:00 this morning... 850 more miles to go!!

No............look at my signature....... Ordered May 9, 2009. Just picked up for production in late July. It'll be right at 4 months since I ordered my car when I actually get it.

The numbers I was giving was a scenario. Not real.
