If you have a convertible and that brace is not on it - you car is very dangerous and risks structural damage. The convertible cars are specifically designed to replace the lost structural support from the roof by adding bracing in the floors. If you car does not have it I would not drive it until you have it replaced and make sure all the other factory bracing is in place. It would be a shame for your car to buckle because the bracing is removed. If you have a built motor you can twist the car even easier.

I was at Englishtown Dragway and saw a guy with a mint restored 1970 Nova. Obviously the car had a motor that was heavy built and was very healthy. When he lined up and the tree dropped his car hooked up hard and lifted the left front wheel. Within about 2-3 car lengths his windshield popped out and his left front wheel never touched the ground even when stopped. Point being, he has way to much horsepower to have not added more structural support and in return destroyed his car to where it probably can never be repaired.

talwell,

I have a question for you. I guess I miss understood the story of COPO cars. I thought all 1st gen camaro's that were COPO's had the ZL1 engine in them??? So you are saying that you could get a COPO but only 69 of them came with the aluminum block ZL1 motor? What other engine could you get? How many COPO cars were produced then? Also weren't they only made in 1969?

Also you explained a double COPO car but i didn't quite follow it. Basically is a double COPO car one with all the suspension upgrades etc... but it had the iron block 427 instead? Is yours a double COPO car?

thanks for any help you can give to straighten me out on this. I'm a huge camaro fan, but guess I don't know the full story of what a COPO car is exactly as i was assuming all the camaro ones had the ZL1.

C.O.P.O. is the acronym for Central Office Production Order. This process was used for all types of special orders. Some were of the Hi-Performance variety, but most were not.

As it pertains to 1969 Camaros there were three major performance COPO options.

COPO 9560; The all aluminum ZL1 427ci engine and a special 4.10 rear gear etc.

COPO 9561; The Iron Block L72 427ci engine etc.

COPO 9737; The Sports Car Conversion Package was available in conjunction with either of the other two COPO options mentioned above.

All 198 1969 Yenkos were both 9561 and 9737 COPOs

Some of the approx. 800 other 9561 COPOs also had the 9737 COPO option.

Wow - you learn something new everyday. I did not know that all Yenko cars were co-copo cars.

BTW- Nickey, how is your continuation series of the 1969 camaros coming? Have you built anymore of them besides the prototype that I saw on your site?

Restore ?

Where did you have the restoration done at? I have a 69 that I can't wait to start tearing into. Need to get it completely documented first. Have you ever seen one with this ext/int combo?

Sweet ride. Did you have it restored or did you buy it restored? They are very close. Your has black interior, mine has orange houndstooth. Here is a pic of it before I pulled it out of the barn that it had been sitting in since 1983.

No I did not restore that orange Z, I bought and traded for it while waiting for my 2010. However, I am currently restoring a Lemans blue X77 that every single part matches on it. It is a 42,000 mile car with all the original panels including the trunk and floor pans. I will post pics of the car soon. Currently the car is at the body getting painted, I can't do that part.
