are the gears worth it? How much would a shop charge to install? Would you do headers or gears first?

the 1le diff is not available as of yet, but you can install just the gears, which many people are planning to do.

Our Solid Subframe Mounts really do make a massive difference in the feedback and performance from the rear end of the car, without significant impact to ride quality. If you move to a stiffer poly replacement for the differential mounts that can definitely run the risk of increasing noise from the differential, but the subframe mounts are pretty quiet and will definitely accomplish what you're looking for.
Do you have to drop the whole rear subframe to do a gear swap? If you do, then putting in the Pfadt bushings at that time would be a really good investment.

No matter what I would plan on changing out the rear end bushings while I was there.

Thanks, I read that post, but did not see that anyone had actually measured up the new gears to confirm the 218mm gear size.

That should be all you need that I can think of. Now you just need to decide which brand of bushings you want to go with. Personally I like Pedders of Pfadt....they aren't the cheapest though.

They are 218mm. Online parts catalog description includes... 218mm 3.91 ratio 1LE.

Is this just the gear pieces or the whole pumpkin. Would the 1LE pumpkin fit our SS.

Correction Pfadt, the ZL-1 has stiffer durometer cradle setup than my 2012 ss. Pedders mentioned this months back and I proved this for my self with a ZL-1 on the showroom floor. But the Pfadt cradle bushings would be still superior.
