Garage Heater needed! any suggestions?
Winter is coming and I got a ton of things I want to do to my car. I have a 2400 square foot garage, insulated metal building. Natural gas already ran to it. Anyone have any suggestions on a gas heater? where to get one? I dont like to work on the car in a coat...And I want to be able to live out there every night.

Grainger. Get the ones that hang from the ceiling. I heat all my garages this way. Very easy to install. Not sure on the btu for that particular size but it'll be on the site. I'm assuming that you have high ceilings. The building code in CT requires a certain height plus with this you don't want them to close to your head!

+1 Grainger rocks! It is like the real man's (and woman's) hardware and supply store. I love their warehouses. There is one a block from my work. I am working on a project with Grainger too. Good people.

well for the ultimate heating you should have thought ahead and put floor heat in b4 you poured your cement. Grainger has about everything a guy could think of. I think our cataloug at work has like 6000 pages of stuff in it.
In my 2.5 stall insulated garage I just run a medium sized natural gas heater that hangs on the wall, and that works alright. For REALLY cold days I also have an LB white heater hanging from the cealing that is fed by a 100lb propane cylinder. |

My gagarge is 24'x26'. I have a Modine Hot Dawg. Runs on natural gas and hangs from the ceiling. About the size of a small a/c unit and direct vents straight out. I leave it at 45 degs all the time, and jack it up to 60-65 when I'm out there.....great investment, can't imagine my garage without heat.

Like mentioned earlier, if you're just building a garage, radiant hydronic floor heating is the way to go. You rough in the pex tubing in the concrete slab.
Then attach to the controls and a heat source. It's more expensive than other methods, especially if you need a hot water heat source, but it's also going to save you money down the road in operating expense because it's more efficient. But the real reason to go this way is comfort. Once you experience this, you'll want it everywhere. No noise, no fluctating tempertures, and because of the radiant effect, the heat's where you need it instead of on the ceiling. |

Only one place to get a REAL garage heater from my friend- ready to order one myself...
Obviously you'll need a bigger size but I've found they're the cheapest on the web for Reznor. http://rockwellequipment.com/shop/pr...products_id=14

twenty-five year heating and cooling pro here. I have a condensing gas furnace in my garage.
It's a lot more efficient than a Unit heater plus I have A/C on mine which you can't do with a Unit heater from Grainger. Radiant heat is okay as long as you plan on heating the garage all the time. It takes a long time for the slap to heat up plus if you don't maintain some heat it could freeze up unless you use antifreeze. I like being able to turn my heat off in the garage when I'm not using it and having it quickly heat up when I do. You can't do this with radiant heat. For 2,400 Sq/ft where you live without knowing all the specifics on the building and not knowing what max temp you want to maintain I would say as a rough est. you need about 100mbh of output. |
