Alarm system - Proximity senor

I asked this question back then when I got my car.

I'm trying to make my factory alarm system detect if anyone touches the car, lean on it, etc...

I went to an alarm system shop today and the guy told me you need "proximity sensor" but he said it wont work with your factory alarm... "you have to buy one of our alarm systems" he said he can do everything for $425 installed (2 stage sensor + 2 way remote)

Is this a good price, is there any alternative?

my car is safe when parked overnight because I always park it in my indoor garage. But when I go out its parked in parking lots, street. and most of the time I go check on it at least every 30 minutes or so. (yeah.. i love my camaro) lol. I really have a feeling someone will key my car, or ding it.

Already got one door ding!

Dude, its gonna happen sooner or later. If someone hits their car door against yours and the sensor goes off.......then what? The ding isn't gonna go away or something.

My 2 pesos...

I've owned 15 cars since the year 2000.

I've got a combined total of 1 door ding.

That one was when I parked at a mall that has tiny parking spots and the lot was FULL... I had no choice but to park between 2 cars.

so... it's possible that you can prevent dings if you desire.

$425 for a 2way system is a good price, as long as it is a DEI product. They make, Viper, Avital, Python, Clifford, etc. If someone is trying to sell you an alarm besides a DEI(Directed Electronics) then dont even bother.

Here is the link for the field disturbance sensor from Viper. Just a thought, they also have a glass break sensor too which could be a good thing.

Can't I just add that to my factory alarm?

I would hate to carry around 2 alarmss remote

I'm not aware of anything that would allow for that. I could be completely wrong, but I know of one other person on here got a Viper system for a remote start. Viper does have a thing called Smart Start which works for your cell phone that allows you to remote start arm/disarm (not sure about other features like rolling up windows, etc). Basically turns your phone into the fob. Could be an option? Hopefully someone else can chime in on this...

This just came to mind. A lot of systems have a 2 way fob. They usually have led's or a small lcd screen that visually confirms your button presses so if, for instance you walk into a building, realize you might have forgotten to arm the system, just hit the button and something will either flash or animate on the fob without you having to go back outside to make sure.

I'm working on that. Gonna try and add a DEI shock sensor and digital tilt sensor this coming week, to the factory alarm.
