By this are you asking if the sales are to older people but the actual driver is the child of the buyer? My understanding is no, older people were buying the Xb for themselves. This is only recollection because I can't find the article but apparently it's part of Toyota's concern on the brand. They don't quite know what to do because they meant it for this segment over here but it ended up being bought by that segment over there- so they actually cut into sales they were expecting to make on other products by stealing buyers from themselves.

Hope my sentence structure made sense there. I can't seem to think clearly at the moment.

Well around here if you look at the people actually driving the Xb's and Cubes, ect.. you see younger folks, 20's and early 30's.. I haven't seen any gray haired men or women driving them...

They could save a lot of money on R&D and tooling if the just buy toyotas and scions and rebadge them as GMC.

Makes sense, and yes that was what I was getting at. If you can find that article (maybe when you can think clearer?) I'd like to read it

I can't find the original article, but I found this one that references it:

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/scion-dying/

But Scion’s claims about its (relatively) youthful median buyers’ age is being disputed by Strategic Visions, which claims that the current median age of Scion buyers is a not-so-young 47. And it’s been trending higher ever since 2006. The median age of all car buyers is 54.

The article I saw specifically referenced the Venza being an attempt to get this 'practical older buyer' back into the fold (it's basically an upscale Xb sizewise).

But a buyer still isn't always the driver

No I understand that, like I said- I can't find the original article. But people in this older age group have been buying Xb's because of their price and practicality for themselves. So their marketing message got confused and they can't get Scion back on track. Then they created the Venza to appeal to the practicality aspect and get these older buyers back, but the Venza wasn't really drawing back their target because it was $6k more. Basically they underestimated the frugal factor for older people. When I say older, I mean like fixed income retired people were some of the prime Xb sales.

You should come visit around here. No one under the age of 45 shows their face near either of those mentioned vehicles.

I just got home from a cruise in the Camaro, and saw a Soul, and a Cube, both had young blonde women driving them....probably early 20's

I've figured it out. 47 year olds are buying them for their "other" women.
