you have to have your onstar account number. Hit the blue button and ask for it before you begin.

Mapquest:
get directions..then right click, "send to OnStar"
It will suggest you name it (optional).
Then, the next time you are in your car, click the call button (right side of steering wheel), and when you hear the auto-chick say "Ready", say "Virtual Advisor". It will then inform you you have just added a new destination, or say one of your saved destinations.

I bought a TomTom GPS, because OnStar is the worst thing in the world.

I love it.

I have a Garmin 265WT but this car came with turn by turn. I think I'll use both.

You can also send Google Maps to your car now. Go to Google Maps, get your directions, click Send To, select Car, then follow the prompts for your make and Onstar info.

My Onstar couldn't even get the right directions to our house on the way home from the Dealership when I bought the car. It was having me go to some road over 10 miles from my house as I was 2 miles from home. So that was the last time I ever used it. Garmins are much better with what they can all do.

I just did a 2790 mile road trip from Apopka, FL to San Antonio, TX and back last week. I used OnStar, my iPhone 3GS and a Magellan Roadmate 1201.

The OnStar service was great! I had no problems at all with the service. On arrival in San Antonio I realized I had given OnStar an incorrect address to my destination and called for an update (at 5PM on a Friday) and had a situation where they said that they did not have enough "bandwidth" to download the "turn by turn" instructions to the vehicle. so they stayed on the line and verbally helped me get to where I needed to be.

I used the iPhone as a back up to the OnStar, just as a double check. The Magellan I used on a side trip to Austin, TX and found it just "adequate" compared to the other devices. My beef with the Magellan is the $80 cost to update the map with no guarantee that the "new road up the street" that has been under construction for 3 years is included in the "update".

Granted, the continued OnStar subscription is more $$ than that. We will make the decision when the renewal period comes up.
