High-speed chase ends when OnStar halts SUV

Quote:
DETROIT - When two Visalia, Calif., police officers swung their cruisers behind a sport utility vehicle that had been carjacked at gunpoint early Sunday, they prepared for a dangerous high-speed chase.

The 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe roared away with officers in pursuit, but shortly after the suspect made a right turn, operators at General Motors Co.'s OnStar service sent a command that electronically disabled the gas pedal and the SUV gradually came to a halt.

The flustered thief got out and ran, but was quickly nabbed after he climbed several fences and fell into a backyard swimming pool, police said.

Yup...right up the freeway from home. Good job OnStar! Now make the renewal packages cheaper!

A car thief knows to disable on-star and knows how to in about 3 seconds.
A carjacker without a hammer to smash the antenna is just asking for trouble.

If they come to steal your car, they're going to get your car.

I never knew car-jacking was a pre-planned crime. I always figured it was a spur of the moment thing: "I need a car NOW" otherwise, why not steal a parked car? Particularly at 3am.

It says that only 18 of the 30 equipped models have the disabling feature, is the Camaro one with or without?

Camaro has it. All of the new models going forward have it. Basically they're phasing it in as models get refreshed/replaced.

While he's busy trying to disable the antenna you can either drive away really fast, or use your fisticuffs to disable his consciousness.

I would think most people dont keep keys in their parked cars. Its much easier to tell someone to "get the f out or Ill kill you and go to your house and kill anyone thats there too if you dont give me the effing keys now you old b**ch!"
