another Drone question

Have a 2012 45th, had Flow Masters from a V8 installed at approx. 1500 miles. looking at doing a few road trips, and wife isnt real pleased with the drone inside the car. without changing the mufflers, what would be the best way to eliminate most if not all the drone? I was thinking an H pipe? Heard of others running different configurations of curved tubes before the mufflers. Still want (and love) the sound it puts outside the car, but really need to quiet it up inside... thoughts?

I suspect a replacing the factory h-pipe with a "resonated x-pipe" (x-pipe in the form of a muffler) would help with drone, but I know for sure the j-pipes (those curved pipes before the mufflers) do kill drone almost completely without affecting sound much if at all.

I dont have a factory resonated x pipe. both are independent of each other. right and left - kind of like the Twix commercials...

Say whaaa? What exactly have you done to the exhaust? The factory exhaust includes an h-pipe which can be replaced by said aftermarket resonated x-pipe. The h-pipe is in around the middle of the car, and then from there we have resonators and then mufflers. Since you have mufflers already (Flowmasters) I'd lean towards the j-pipes as adding another muffler will quiet the sound more, unless volume isn't a big deal for you.

All i have had done is replace the suitcase stock mufflers with Flow Masters behind the axle. They are definitely independent pipes from the block back. Do not connect or join anywhere

I'm hot sure about the V6 but I know my V8 has a factory H pipe in the middle and its pretty huge. I assume the V6 has something similar so I would think to get any change there it would need to an X Pipe otherwise it would be H for H which likely wouldn't do much.

Just a muffler delete should not cause Drone ( a secondary resonance). I suspect it could be the sound she doesn't like but it may not be actual drone? I have a delete and the car sounds better at some RPM's than others but I wouldn't call it Drone.

But if its drone I agree a J pipe would be the best solution. But if there is no central resonator at all an H pipe would help no doubt.

Below is a picture from solo comparing the stock exhaust to one of their cat backs. If all you have done is put on a axle back then you should still have the h-pipe joining the two sides in the middle. (by the "78lbs" comment)

Should you replace the h-pipe with a res-X, the system would look similar to the solo system with the larger muffler towards the front.

If you have drone I would HIGHLY recommend the j pipes(circled in red). Solo puts them on most of their systems but you can also order just the pipes if you call/email.

I have them on mine and before doing it the drone would drive you insane. Now its basically gone.

I think a picture of the underside of your car would be best, and by extension any kind of crossover would probably help the sound... I would guess with no crossover it is horribly raspy.

Either way. You'd want to have the Magnaflow 11386 welded in after the exhaust curves in towards itself after the catback connection to the catalytic downpipes. Same place where that center muffler is in the post before this one. If you truly don't have a factory H then someone else has already modified that exact position.

Drove it off the showroom floor with 12 miles on it. I have been the only owner, and I know when i had it in the air replacing the 2 factory mufflers behind the axle that the pipes are not connected in any way from the block back.

so, took a video of the pipes from back to front, separate from the axle back all the way past the two resonators, them BAM, hidden just past the block, found the cross pipe connecting the two. swore it wasnt there, but is pretty hidden. Guess ill take ketchup and mustard on my crow...

Flowmasters do drone. If you like the sound then add the j pipes. If you want to change it then get yourself some different mufflers.

I too gotta add j-pipes, cold weather with the windows up has amplified it(when its hot and the windows are down and the music is loud..what drone?) Lookin to piece a kit together myself using some mandrel bent tubing off of ebay and add them to my Doug T. axle backs. Good luck!
