Unhappy I am not ashamed... V6 bound.

This is my first post. Just joined, although I've been salivating over photos on the site for years.

I just wanted to take the chance to defend my decision to make a 2010 Camaro V6 my next car. I've been driving my 1997 SS for over 6 years now, and it has been wonderful to me. I attempted to sell it on eBay last year, but set my reserve so high that I knew it wouldn't sell. I couldn't part with it.

The past three years have been torture as I cannot be convinced to look at any other car than a 2010 Camaro as my next purchase. Up until a few months ago, I was hell-bent on buying a black 2010 SS/RS to match (or replace) the one I currently own. This was until the pricing options were released.

I'll be graduating from college this spring (Go Hoos!) and as such I don't have a hell of a lot of money to spend right now. Looking at not only MSRP, but also dealer markups, I have been sobered into the realization that I probably won't be able to afford a new SS.

I love my car, but man putting premium gas into a 5.7L V8 every week is really wearing my wallet thin. Plus I don't really want to piss off President Obama... I kinda like the guy. With the country/world having so many concerns over vehicle emissions, I can't help but pretend that I'm making the switch for humanitarian reasons.

Well all being said, I think I've finally decided to do the responsible thing. I'm getting a V6. 2LT/RS, now to choose a color...

Camaro is a Camaro weather it be V6 or V8.... V6 is a hell of a punch for the engine it is.

Nothing to be ashamed or appologetic about buying the V6. Right now I AM DRIVING A 4 CYL, 170hp sports car. I will now also have a V6 with 304hp. now I have all sorts of fun driving my 4 cly sports car, I am sure I will in the V6..
You made a great choice... neve feel bad about it.

You know I'm torn between CGM and IBM. I really like the IBM in any light, so I'm waiting to see the CGM... anywhere.

I am actually looking forward to driving the V6. It'll be my first 300+hp car and I can't wait to feel the thing actually respond when I hit the gas.

I rented a 350Z in San Diego a couple of years ago and I LOVED it. And I don't even think that was 300hp.

I just can't wait to have RWD again.

But good choice on the V6.

No shame whatsoever! Look at it this way: When I bought my 1986 Corvette new, it had 230 horsepower. That seemed like tons at the time. When I bought my 1994 Z28, it had a then-amazing 275 horsepower. It wasn't all that long ago that you had to order an aftermarket version of an F-body (like a Firehawk Firebird) to crack 300 ponies. So 300-plus hp in a more insurance-friendly V6 is an OUTSTANDING decision for a recent college grad. Crap, the V6 in my 1982 Firebird--the car I owned when I graduated from college in 1983--made a lousy 120 horsepower!

A v6 camaro is the best option for a lot of people including me. Good gas mileage, friendly insurance rates, and unless you are a racer, all the car most of us will ever need...2lt/rs.. dont know the color yet. for me color is a more difficult decision than v6 vrs v8.

I see you mention Markup in your first post. Just make sure to shop around at dealers to get one that doesn't charge a markup

Also not ashamed...
I will get the RS for now, that has almost as much horsepower as my '02 Z/28
and (hopefully) later I will get a Z/28 again or an SS.

I'm in this crowd. Gas, price, insurance was part of what swayed me. Got lots of friends that say it's ""not a real" muscle car. They drive cobra's and vettes. Somehow, I'm buying this car for me, and I wanted a V6. I could probably afford a V8, and I'm getting options up the wazoo on my v6 (rs, stripes, manual) but somehow, the v6 just seems right for me. Looking forward to my camaro, so I know you are too...
