VIN Confusion - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

According to GM vin card the 10th character is for year model, the 11th is for production plant and 12th - 17th is production sequence. So, if my VIN is:

xxxxxxxxxA9103174

the A stands for 2010
the 9 stands for Oshawa

and if the remaining numbers are supposed to be production sequence that would mean I have the 103,174th camaro made. Funny,that,seeing as how GM is just now getting around to 55,000, not to mention the fact I bought my Rosie off the lot at the end of may, and the camaros were just unveiled on the lots May 6. Can someone 'splain please?

A litte sidenote: if none of this makes sense it most certainly is the ambien.

I'm sure it's a "place holder", just so every VIN begins with "1".

Early Camaros started with 0, then when full production started they start with a leading 1. so your Camaro is number 3,174 off the line, give or take a few.

Is GM going to make more than 100,000 - 2010 Camaros?

Probably not... the 2011 models are just around the corner.

If the 2010 Camaro was being produced all the way up into October 2010, they would produce more than 100,000 cars. Meaning they would have to roll up the vin # and start labeling them as A92XXXXX.

The 2010 plant will have to be shutdown, re-tooled, and be popping out 2011's by June.

I wish I knew when, I'm planning on ordering mine in April (June delivery?). I'll be happy with either a 2010 or 2011 but I'd love to have a 2010.
