Grenaded LS3 - What Now??!!
Well, I don't know if I'm the first doofus to do it...but I've blown up the stock motor. A piston and valve had a bit of a conflict and wiped out one side of the motor. So I felt it was appropriate to ask all you knowledgeable folks what I should do. I need to purchase a long block and am wondering who from and what specs.
My requirements: - Staying NA - Lots of power - Aluminum LS3 block - 400+ cubes - Cost matters, so no exotic hand made parts Re-usable parts: - 1 head - Comp .675 lift springs - Harland Sharp rockers - That's it. Everything else it totaled. So far I have an estimate from LateModelEngines for $9K. It's a 416 LS3 with CNC ported heads. Anyone know of an offer that can beat it? |

Damn I'm sorry to hear that. I'm about to go get my stock LS3 a Vortech Supercharger installed and even though it will be sweet as hell and I cant wait I still have this possible problem happening to me in the back of my head! They offer a warranty which I'm getting but just wondering if something like this can happen to mine. Good luck with everything and hope it all works out in the end!

Stock motor? Why would you need to buiy a motor? Should be covered under warranty.

I had cammed the motor, so the warranty is out the window. It was bizarre though, I hadn't thrashed the motor yet after the swap and was cruising at about 2K RPM. It made a 'tink' sound and shut off. That was all she wrote...

Had you checked your valve clearance? Will a stock LS3 handle .622 without cutting the pistons? I thought I read somewhere that .615 was about as far as you want to push it.
