MPG concerns

I have had my car for just about exactly 3 months now and about 1800 miles and im very concerned with the way below what its supposed to be mpg Im getting. I live about 5 mins from work so 90-95% of my driving is on the streets but I only get about 11-13 mpg and its an auto v6 2lt! Even when Ive driven 40-50 miles on the freeway, the highest mpg I have ever seen on my car is 23mpg and its usually between 20-22 when Im on the freeway. I know Im not going to get exactly what it says it will but this seems ridiculous. I figured I would get about 15-16 on streets and 24-25 highway at the worst. Should I be concerned or should I just let it break in more? Also Im not racing this thing around either so I know its not from having a lead foot.

MPG depends alot on how and where you drive. My LT got an average of 24.2 over 5000 miles at an average speed of 44.2.

Your figures sound a little low, but you may be a more spirited driver. The right foot controls the MPG.....

Five minutes to work, city traffic, doesn't give it much of a chance...probably a good percent of that is just from starting it up!...

But that is very true. I have a M6 2lt and I average 22 mpg all city driving. I do very normal accelerations and don't speed everywhere. And I'm in sixith most of the time so I generally have to shift anytime I need power n

Not much consolation, but when you are at a stop, mpg is going backwards!!...and more gas to get going, even up to 13mph...

But thats my concern. Im not a "spirited driver". I drive the same as I always have for the most part and I not trying to race or show off to other drivers. Also, my averagr mph is between 16 and 17 all the time. That is one thing that always seems 2 stay about the same no matter where or how I drive.

Just so we're all on the same page, you reset the MPG after you fill up the tank? Or are you calculating the MPG by hand?

Next time you do the highway driving, reset the thing. If you are driving a lot of city, then expecting it to go up a lot on the highway, ain't gonna happen. It is displaying the average mpg.

I get 19 mpg going to work, but it is 75% non-stop 60+ mph. If I just drive "around town" it goes WAY down. The short drive is also killing you, the car gets better mpg after warming up, and 5 minutes doesn't do it. On the highway, in the summer, doing cruise control at 72, I was getting 29.5, but that was summer fuel too.

These things are sensitive, and thirsty, but you are at the mercy of that short drive.

Hang in there!

Set the DIC on mph and leave it there.

Treble 3 Mid 1 Bass 3 Volume about 25. Buck Cherry, Velvet Revolver, maybe some Black Keys or STP...

Now you can really enjoy the car. There is nothing wrong with the mileage, quit watching it.

It's not like the old days where you could tune the carb and set the points and timing. It's all computer controlled, and if the check engine light is not on, highly doubtful anything is wrong.

The short trips will kill the mileage. You can thank the EPA for requiring fast light off of cats, which means a very rich cold start. Your ratio of cold starts to miles per tank is rediculously high, and your mileage will always suck driving like that.

Seriously, go fine tune the equalizer and enjoy the drive.

I used to get between 10-12 on short trips, those are the worst. Get a CAI or SRI and it will go up some. Stay off it !

.. just enjoy it like Russell said.

I have an modified SS and get 16.5 all city driving. The tune actually helped a lot for efficiency.

You may not think you are a spirited driver, but if you are pushing less than 15 with the V6... you are.

You don't have to be full throttle and racing all the time to influence your MPGs negatively. If you are cruising around the 1.8-2k rpm range, you are fine, but if you are fluctuating higher than 1.5, you are going to see your MPG dip.
