How to verify numbers matching engine
I just bought a 1969 Camaro convertible. It has an I6 engine. I want to see if it is the original engine. How can I check to see? Thanks

How many miles on the car?
Those are rare....they made 2 6cyl versions. 140hp and the beefed up 155hp. They are rare because most have been used to duplicate the more valuable V8s. I actually don't know if they stamped the 6s like the V8s, but there would be a pad on the engine block with two sets of numbers.....one set, a smaller font would have your VIN embedded in it then the other set in a larger font is an assembly date stamp. What kind of transmission? Is it 3 on the tree....I've seen those before...they are funny. |

Here's the link within the site that gives you the pad location on the 6s where your VIN could be stamped.
http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PadStamps I've never even bother to look at those.....people totally ignore those cars. If your was damaged by fire, its a good opportunity to convert to a V8...Carbed V8s are cheap, probably cost less than to retore the 6. You'll enjoy it more when its done and it'll be worth more. |
