How to verify numbers matching engine

I just bought a 1969 Camaro convertible. It has an I6 engine. I want to see if it is the original engine. How can I check to see? Thanks

How many miles on the car?
Those are rare....they made 2 6cyl versions. 140hp and the beefed up 155hp.

They are rare because most have been used to duplicate the more valuable V8s.

I actually don't know if they stamped the 6s like the V8s, but there would be a pad on the engine block with two sets of numbers.....one set, a smaller font would have your VIN embedded in it then the other set in a larger font is an assembly date stamp.

What kind of transmission? Is it 3 on the tree....I've seen those before...they are funny.

Good link AintQik!!

Pull the valve cover off to look at the casting date codes on the head, block has it all as well.

Here's the link within the site that gives you the pad location on the 6s where your VIN could be stamped.

I've never even bother to look at those.....people totally ignore those cars.

If your was damaged by fire, its a good opportunity to convert to a V8...Carbed V8s are cheap, probably cost less than to retore the 6.

You'll enjoy it more when its done and it'll be worth more.
