2010 Camaro 3.6L
Everyone is talking about the SS, but I just saw the numbers for the 3.6L and its suppose to put out 300 hp and 273 torque. Thats pretty crazy considering what the old LT1's and LS1's put out, its pretty cool how things change sometimes

The 3.6 has been netting a good bit of popularity, believe me. Just head over to the V6 discussion boards.

/\ +1
And the V6 has even won over a few die-hard V8 enthusiasts (possibly myself included...still undecided).

Is 27 MPG with the manual and 26 with the auto?

It's all an educated guess at the moment until final specs are released.
For comparison, the 2008 Cadillac CTS with the same engine/trans combos: 3.6l DI + 6L50 Automatic: 17city/26hwy 3.6l DI + Aisin AY6 Manual: 16city/25hwy http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx...Field=Findacar |

I'd like to add (even though I don't post a lot I do read a lot here)...
I know many of you are concerned (as am I) about gas mileage. But, when I drove to Indy in 2000 (damn 8years ago!!) with a 6speed and 4.10 gears in my 97 Camaro SS i actually got 30mpg on my way out there from Maryland. A friend who was traveling in his 94 Z28 couldn't understand why his gas mileage was worst because he had 3.42's (he had a 6speed too) that all that up and downshifting killed his gas mileage where for me, the car stayed in 6th gear and I cruised....Just food for thought. So when you see those numbers I am willing to bet there will be a few of us that WILL get even better then that with the right gear ratio. |

2010 Camaro V6 vs 2009 CTS 300 HP V6
I rented a CTS ( not with the DI 300+ HP version of the V6 ) a few months ago. With the announcement of GM’s Employee Pricing For everyone – and the ( surprising, to me ) inclusion of the 2009 CTS in this promotion – I decided to schedule a quick test drive.
Given that this CTS essentially has the same motor that will be in the base Camaro. . . And given that the automatic trans. in the CTS is also a 6L50 – same as in the Camaro . . . And given that the CTS’s final drive ratio is 3.42:1 – a bit more aggressive ( approx. 4.5% ) than the Camaro V6’s 3.27 . . . And the CTS’s weight is only about 200 #s ( approx. 6% ) more than the announced weight of the Camaro V6 . . . Well – I truly hope that 200 # weight advantage for the Camaro makes a whole lot more difference than I’d expect in acceleration – or I fear that many will be disappointed in this aspect. The R&T test of a CTS, with performance options but few luxury options, shows 0 – 60 = 6.0 seconds. And the Quarter in 14.5 @ 98.2. Though I may be somewhat ‘spoiled’ by the Corvette I drive daily, I really was underwhelmed by the 300 HP CTS’s acceleration. ( MSRP was nearly $50K, BTW ) I do not see what these numbers represent as a particularly sporting or sprightly level of acceleration. The CTS did not feel quick to me, at all . . . - Ray Hoping for the best here . . . Note: CTS’s Michelin tires = 235/50x18 Camaro V6 = 245/55x18 |

That V6 is really lucrative. It's definitely no slouch to the competition out there.

I think a base car that runs in the 14s is no slouch. As you stated earlier, this power is not far from LS1s even (although, they aren't known to be pretty underrated.) Regardless, my LT1 ran low 14s stock, so I don't think the DI V6 at 300+ horse' running similar times is anything to sneeze at personally. It all comes down to what your preferrences are though

The V6 Camaro will run 0-60 6.0 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.5 at best.
