GM 6.2L L86 V8 Rated at 420 HP, 460 lb ft torque

It’s Official: 2014 Silverado and Sierra Deliver Most Power
New Chevrolet, GMC light duty pickups also deliver best towing capacity in class
General Motors

September 10, 2013

DETROIT – The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and High Country and the GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500, available this fall, with a 6.2L V-8 produces an SAE-certified 420 horsepower (at 5600 rpm) and 460 lb-ft of torque (at 4100 rpm), the most power of any pickup engine and torque of any light duty pickup truck engine.

The 6.2L V-8 available for Silverado LTZ and High Country and Sierra SLT and Denali models also delivers class-leading maximum available trailering capacity of 12,000 pounds when properly equipped.

“Power and towing capacity are fundamental capabilities for full-size pickups,” said Jeff Luke, General Motors Executive Chief Engineer for full- and mid-size trucks. “The 2014 Silverado and Sierra deliver unmatched power and towing capability with a host of ingenious driver aids.”

The optional Max Trailering Package is available on 2WD and 4WD V-8 crew cab and double cab models and includes:
  • Trailering package with seven-pin and four-pin connector
  • Enhanced cooling
  • Automatic locking rear differential
  • Heavy-duty 9.75-inch rear axle with 3.73 ratio
  • Increased-capacity rear leaf springs
  • Revised shock tuning for increased control
  • Integrated trailer brake controller.

In addition to the 6.2L V8, Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 will offer a 4.3L V-6 SAE-certified at 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque and a 5.3L V-8 certified at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

Silverado and Sierra trucks equipped with the 4.3L V-6 will have available towing ratings of up to 7,600 pounds, the highest for any base V-6 in the segment. Silverado and Sierra trucks equipped with the 5.3L V-8 and the max towing package, available later this year, will have towing ratings of up to 11,500 pounds when properly equipped.

All three engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing, a combination not found in competitor vehicles. The engines also use a compact overhead-valve design and weight-saving components such as aluminum blocks and cylinder heads to reduce mass for additional energy savings.

All three provide the proven power, torque and dependability of a large-displacement engine, seamlessly switching to four-cylinder mode to save fuel during light-load driving. The 5.3L V-8 has EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 23 mpg highway (2WD models), the best of any V-8 pickup, and better than Ford EcoBoost V-6. .

EPA fuel economy estimates for the 6.2L V-8 will be finalized in the near future.

So if they get over 30hp and 30lbft from a factory e85 tune on the 5.3 the 6.2 should match or beat it which woułd put it at 450/490ish. That's almost 500 pound feet if torque from a stock small block pump gas engine....INSANE!!!

So, only available in the high end models with the larger cabs? looks like price of entry for a 6.2 will be well over 40k.

I really like the new Silverado but I have one problem with the new trucks as well as I the 07-13's. I don't understand why Chevrolet will not let you order a Brand new truck like you want. What I mean is I would luv to have new Silverado 2wd Reg cab short bed with the 6.2 and the LTZ package. I tried my hardest to order a 2011 that way to find out that in the Reg cab short bed truck the best interior offered was the LT with the Cloth interior and a 5.3 was the largest engine. I have a 00' Silverado Reg cab sport side bed and I put a 6.0 in it and I get a average of 22mpg combining highway and city driving. I really feel Chevrolet is really missing a market by limiting the Reg cab trucks not only to the smaller V8 but more importantly the Interior and wheel package. This is IMO but I think Chevy could get a better MPG rating with this combo and it would be a good seller.

&quot; It would be a good seller&quot; is just the point of why they wouldnt do that. They wouldn't get all the extra money on the mark up of the packages/bodystyles that you don't need. I would love to get a base trim Cruze diesel but thats never going to happen. It would be cool if you could choose any option you want for any vehicle. There would be some unique new trucks out there.</p>

I will never understand GM for being Behind the times when it comes to Putting the 6.2 in reg cabs pickups Ram lets you get their Hemi in a reg cab Now ford comes out with The tremor package I think even Toyota lets you get their top motor in a Reg Cab I wanna know who Gm focus groups and talks to cause I always hear every saying they want a 6.2 in a Reg Cab not all of us have families and need a 4 door pick up But I guess since Gm is a business they need to make sure they milk the R&D out of People before they decide to drop it in a Reg Cab for us people who can afford the 45k to 60k pickup trucks. Bah sorry for the rant and bad grammar but it just pisses me off and turns me away from the Gm truck twins. Oh and Gm while your at you can import the Car/truck maloo from Australia since your going with two niche vehicle already in the SS Sedan and Z/28
