Kooks Signature Series Stepped Long Tube Headers

Hi Chase, what do you think of these headers? (Kooks Signature Series Stepped Long Tube Headers PR#6510). I see a lot about them and was looking at them for the additional bung, HP jump.

Thanks,
Scott

For optimal gain stepped headers really should be custom built for the application but they are a quality product that produces solid performance gains right off the shelf.

So it sounds like either type of Kooks LTs would give me a good bang for the buck?

Ceramic coating is what you would apply to headers. We can help you with that if it is something you want.

I'm looking to pick up a set of Tri-Ys, but on the Thorley site it does not say whether or not they are 304 steel?

Anybody else notice the Thorley site says the Tri-Y long tubes are for supercharged or heavily modified N/A motors? In my mind, heavily modified means cams / heads.

Anybody bolted these on with minor upgrades like CAI, aftermarket exhaust or even a TB? Just curious as to why they want a heavily modified motor with a 1 7/8" primary. Can anyone chime in?

Because they also offer them with 1-3/4 primary tubes, and even they admit the 1-3/4 tubes make more power given their own dyno test. However, I suspect that at some point the 1-3/4 tubes will become a choking point, and the 1-7/8 primaries would pull away.

Tri-Y headers and stepped headers are very different from standard long tubes. They do produce stronger gains but they have to be designed and built for a specific set up in order to do that. You can't just bolt up any old set of them on any car like you can with standard long tubes.

Can you elaborate on WHY to this? Or point me to a thread where you already did?

I ask because my buddy just put these on his 2014 and I was very impressed with them. I was considering them for myself as well, but I keep getting torn between these and a standard longtube design
