350 HRSS,
Thanks for sharing that info.

To all,
Here is the link to GM Approved Engine Oils lists regarding GM4718M (for V8, High Performance) and GM6094M (for V6, Standard):
http://www.gm.com/corporate/responsi...ngine_oils.pdf

This may have been posted before, but I thought it would help.

Doc hit it right on the button.I am a seasoned engine builer/rebuilder, and an adamant about getting those nasty metals and contaminants out of there as quickly as possible. And also, I'm kinda scratching my head as to why these new engines have synthetic in them. It's great after break in, but it really hinders the seating of the valves and rings.Hmm, well, they did create the Internal combustion wonder we all know as the LS.Regardless, i'm still getting that mobile 1 out of there asap until she's broken in.Now, do realize, that metals do aid in the break in process as a honig,or lapping agent.I just like to get th big chunks out as soom as possible!Take care of that bowtie, and it WILL thake care of you!God bless the General.

Wow...I've never heard or been advised to change oil every 1500 miles! That almost seems as if you're throwing money out the window because of the excessive oil change costs.

The engine doesn't take 10k miles to break in...if you've still got shavings in your oil after the first or second oil change than you've got a problem. In fact over everything I've studied--it all points to the fact that people are sometimes changing their oils TOO often--though thats relative since everyone's driving habits and conditions will vary.

So did they have results to back up their recommendation for the 1500 mi oil change intervals? Meaning something that proved that not doing so would hurt the longevity of the engine?

Yeah, I'm not really going for the 1500 mile oil change. Good info though, I've always wanted to have my oil analyzed

You'll be fine; you're only doing it for the first 1500 miles specifically for break-in. Switch to a good synthetic at 1500 and you'll have a strong, reliable engine for a long time.

Another reason for changing the oil and filter at 65 miles was to make sure I wasn't circulating those metals and stuff through the engine and everything else while breaking in the engine. At 1500 miles I'll change to a synthetic; break-in will be done by then.
I have done this EVERY time on the vehicles i have owned including motorcycles, it's honestly IMO the best way to do it. I flogged the car for 250miles and changed the oil...then been easy on it since for the drivetrain, just changed the oil today at 1500miles...

Good to go now...engine is strong and drive train feels spot on.

Just picked my 2SS/6M two days ago and have put 70 miles on it so far. Can you explain what you mean by "breaking in with measured run-ups". Want to make sure I do whats best for my baby and ensure she stays healthy for years to come.

Question:
I know car comes with M1, however my question is..........
Does GM put any else in there before it leaves the factory to aid in break-in?
