500.00 per perelli tire not a myth!
FML! Woke up this morning to take daughter to school and infocenter in dash flashes saying back right tire has 18 psi in it. anyways, I go to looking around at the tire and lo and behold there's a 16 penny nail stuck about 1" away from inside sidewall in the tread. Went to dealer later this afternoon to see if it can be fixed and they said they can't do anything with it because it's too close to sidewall and is against GM policy. (I was already expecting to hear that.) So the dealer went to looking for the price of the replacement tire in the computer with some service guys and i could tell when they found it because of the reaction from them.
To make a long story short tire is 450.00, shipping UPS 13.00, balance and all the goodies winds up being 490.00..... The service guys pulled me to the side and whispered to me that they believe a plug and patch job should be fine on it and recommended me to tire guy down the street. I Went and got the tire fixed at the tire tire place and it cost me 45.00. Figured i'd try it before i dropped 500.00 bucks....Wish me Luck lol! Sucks to have my summit white 2SS/RS M6 three weeks and this happen |

Jealous people stick nails under tires, had a neighbor do it to me for yrs until I got my driveway monitor. You could ride back and for over this nail in the driveway and it will never stand up and go into the tire, its too big.

I feel your pain! I had the same situation, but it was a nail close to the side wall. All the places that I went to said that safety was their #1 concern. But Discount Tire Center said they could get and install the tire for $440. I couldn't afford it at the time so I'm running a Hankook for $140

Although the tire wear on Pirellis isn't great there should be enough time for other options to go with for the RS/SS split tire sizes. Otherwise the trade-off of getting 4 new, same size rims with 20" or 19" versus the OEM tires will drive us to new rims...
I got new matching size 20" rims (pic below) for my Winter Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60s going on my SIM this Friday - so if my Summer Pirelli's go by next summer I'll make a decision then ...

did you think people were lying about the price? or joking maybe?
personally, i wouldn't do a patch job on something that can put 426hp through the drivetrain to the wheels and use the rubber you just patched as a hold out. last thing you need is a blowout. there's a reason why they dont recommend them. |

Nah i'm not being cheap, I was told by the GM service guys and the tire guy that they were pretty sure it wasnt going to be a problem but of course theirs never a guarantee. I'm damn sure at least gonna try it out before dropping 500 smacks tho.

I would replace the rears with Nitto Invo's. That is what I am going to do. Still have a little tread back there but not much. Hoping to get another 3K miles out of them before replacing. FYI I can get the Camaro SS size Invo's for 942.00 installed for all 4.

Immediately go to Discount Tire and pay for the lifetime warranty for your tires.
That is one of the first things I will do when I get my Camaro. I was already quoted $205.00 to warranty all 4 tires. There is no proration on this warranty which means that if your tire cannot be repaired it will be replaced down to 3/32" tire tread. |
