Just general guess
Take off and tear down 1.5 hrs, clean and prep for coating 1 hr, spray and bake 1 hr, re-assemble & inspect 1 hr, re-install and bleed 1.5 hrs That's 5 hrs plus materials and they are probably figuring this per Caliper.
Untrue... the rubber is made to withstand a decent amount of heat... I know people have had them coated fully assembled without a problem.

Considering that you hear of guys boil the brake fluid on the track and:
Dot 3 boils at 401
Dot 4 at 446
And Dot 5 at 500.

For this to occur, the fluid is heated through the pistons in contact with the pads. The pistons transfer heat to the fluid as well as the caliper body, and the pistons are normally sealed with a flexible rubber diaphragm. This rubber takes this heat for years and years, I doubt the oven is hotter than the conditions already sean by these parts.

I didn't even consider that but what are your thoughts????

Aslo I called another company and asked how much to just paint them while still on the car and they quoted me $200.00 so I think i'm going that route as I'm not going to do it myself as most people have just because. Is that a fair price? Also this company quoted $600.00 to powdercoat.

Don't mean to put any company's on blast but Livernois Motorsports is out their mind
That's when I would have got in my camaro and peeled off on him. Left him in the dust. Highway robbery. It's funny how when a camaro comes into a shop prices suddenly goes up.

If it takes you more than 20mins to take a wheel and caliper off you got issue.

Guys,

Let me explain something here.

#1. when we do things, we do them right. Anyone who would ever powder coat an assembled caliper is ripping someone off more than anything else. Just because someone has done it doesn't make it the right way.

#2. It would have been complete removal, flushing of the brake system, tear down of the calipers, stripping the old finish off, replacing any o-rings, and rubber seals. After powder coating in red finish all bolt holes would be retapped, then we would recreate the Camaro/Brembo logo with high temp paint, then we would high temp clear powder over the paint, and retap. Then we would reassemble, refill and bleed the system with high temp 600+ brake fluid.

We use the highest grade powders in the industry, and our work goes on show level prototype cars, to military projects, to street cars, to everything in between.

Could we brake clean the old calipers, use some cheap low grade powder, and just slap them back on for $500-700? I am sure we could. But that's not the type of low end work we do, every job we take on is to be the best at it, not the cheapest.

sorry andy, i like you guys , but there is no way you can justify 14hrs of labor at 100.00 an hr and 200.00 materials...and 200 is a very generous amount of supply...i actually ordered a custom blend of EXACT iom powder{ which is very hard to find}...enough to do 4 calipers, 1 strut brace , 2 axles and still have powder left over..including the proper clear powder to finish in show quality...under 200.00 in materials

Agreed

Mike the powder coat guy does them for 300 and everyone seems to like the work.
I'm no professional mechanic and I was able to swap and bleed my calipers in about 2 hours.

I think they just made a bad read on you and swung for the fences.

They might have more than enough work that a normal price for this job isn't worth their time.
