LSX 427 or LSX 454
Members,
I have sold my 2.9L Whipple Supercharger and am in the process of selling my LS3 Long Block to someone (pic attached). The team at Lethal Racing is preparing to start the second phase of my build after Camaro Fest next week. We will be going with a set-up that produces 1000rwhp (engine, supercharger, fuel system, Meth Injection) at 70-75% of the engine/blower capacity. I am hoping for around 1100-1200 RWHP, so we can tune it down to a conservative 1000rwhp for street use. I know that sounds insane, but my goal has always been to have a 1000rwhp street car! My question to the forum members is which engine would you go with, LSX 427 or LSX 454, and why. Once the build is complete, with the supporting drivetrain components upgraded, we will be tracking the car some, but it will remain my street car/show car toy...thanks and look forward to hearing from you guys!!!

From the old carbureted days, its hard to beat cubic inches. Go big or go home! That my not apply to today's engines if there are better performance parts for the 427 than the 454. I am not sure what the differences are between the two to start with, so my comments may be of no value.

Depends on what it's used for, Force Induction isn't the best thing to run on a 454 LSX.

Only difference is the size of the piston, and thickness of the walls. 454 will actually be weaker. On a n/a build that isn't stressing the block the extra cubes can be nice, but for a 1000+rwhp build you are just making it weaker and the power adder will determine the power, not the size of the motor.

depends on what kind of boost you will be running but my vote would be 427 for reliability since its more of a street/show car........ its not hard to hit 1000+ on a 427

Lol one day you're selling it, one day you're upgrading it, one day you're getting new wheels, the next day you're getting different wheels..
Now you're selling your engine and putting in a new one for a 1krwhp "street car".. Going to be interesting to see if you're even remotely satisfied when you're done this time around... Go with a 427.

I vote for the 454. It's a monster engine NA, I can't imagine it FI. GM says the block can handle 2000HP, but maybe the cylinder walls are too thin for high boost.

OP, you should look into a re sleeved ERL block as well if your budget will allow it. That way you can still have a 6 bolt block but it will be aluminum. Between the blower and LSX block its probably another 200+lbs on the nose of your car. http://www.erlperformance.com/gm-ls-...-block-sleeved
