New Car Paint Issue

Hello I'm Steve. Long time lurker and first time poster.

So I made a trade with a dealer 3 hours away for an SS Vert. Prior to buying the car I noticed the appearance of water spots. There wasn't anyone to detail it past 7 so I had to take it as is. I didn't think much as it looked like an easy detail job. The next day I take it to get detailed and found the spots still on the car. Even after clay barring it myself the spots still remained. So I called immediately to file a complaint. They said they'd take a look at it when I bring it in. A couple of days later I drop it off and they assured me it just needed to be buffed. The next week I call to get an update. They tell me that the paint was ruined due to acid rain. Now they have to get a specialist to see if they'll cover the repairs. Now what steps do I have to take just incase they refuse to cover it 100% ?

I bought a 2011 2LT/RS a little over a year ago and the first problem was bird s--- on the car. It took repainting the hood and new stripes. I then noticed the same as you are experiencing. The tried the buffing, looked worse. Then buffing with a 3M product and still failed. GM looked at the car and decided it would cost to much to attempt to fix. I pick my 2013 up Friday as they bought the 2011 back.

Oh man I dunno. I like the 2011 2SS so I hope they can repaint it. Cause there's no way I could find a 2012 model 9k under sticker

I apologize for the frustrations you are experiencing! If you would like me to contact your dealership to make sure things are being taken care of, I would be more than happy to! I just need your first and last name, address, phone number, VIN, mileage and involved dealership.

I look forward to your correspondence.

I feel your pain as I have the exact same issue as you. I have about 10 different spots only on the sides of my car that I didnt notice until after delivery due to lighting. My dealer thinks the spots can be polished out. The body shop guy at the dealer told me it looks like a improper paint contaminent correction from the the factory.

2012 blask LS goes back next week for the 4th time for paint issues.
everything ranging from spots, sand in the paint, runs, and when the dealer tried to fix it 2 times already it just gets worse.

the dealer is just going to put swirls in your car if they do end up fixing it.

had i known when i got my baby home that if i breathed on it wrong the paint would wash down the toilet i would have bought a mustang sadly

and i waited 22 friggin years to buy my very own camaro.

last was an '81........no paint issues there...

im 1 step from suing

ive had it with this car, and its not the only issue.....LONG list.

and i have 1600 miles on it...

I think you can lemon law it at 3 attempts im correct.

I'm aware of swirl marks so I'll be sure to evaluate it and not accept it as fixed accordingly

I too had swirl/finish issues. Took 4 dealer tries and finally I hired a pro, but it did get fixed correctly.

Now I have to take it back because the front fascia inlay is getting scored through by the grille and you can see yellow paint showing through.

well I just got the car back and drove it back home 3 hours. Showed the work to my friends and they told me that the work done by the dealer was horrible. They say there's alot of swirl and spider cracks that cannot be undone without a paint job now....

I had warranty paint work done on my previous 2010 Camaro. When I got it home I noticed major swirl.

Before:

I went back to them with a fluorescent light and showed them how bad it looked. They asked to borrow my light (!) and they fixed it the right way. As they were doing it I know they kept checking it with the light to make sure the swirls were gone.

After:

I don't think you are the only one that is being affected by this paint issue. My camaro has been sitting at the dealership since last monday as they are trying to fix my paint. I have gone though a Mitsubishi, Lexus, and a Toyota before I bought the Camaro this past april. This car has already spent more time in the shop than any of my previous car. I only have 4000 miles on it. I sure hope they fix the problem and it comes back to me clean and corrent. I don't like to be negative but I am starting to question if I made a right decision by going with Chevrolet.

I am sorry to hear this! If you could please update us when you get your vehicle back, I will be glad to document the outcome.

Good luck!
