Install fabric OVER interior cloth trim? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hey everyone! I have beige cloth trim & door panels in my SW 1LT/RS. I want my door panels & dash trim to be white, but there's no way I'm dropping $350 to buy a set and I really don't like the finality of painting them incase it doesn't turn out so hot or I simply change my mind come August LOL. Sooooo what I'm looking to do is get white fabric and install it over the existing cloth OR replace the original cloth with white fabric. Has anyone does this? Do you think the fit of the door panels would be too tight with this double cloth layer? Is this crazy? Should I stop asking questions????

Been looking at doing this as well. Just can't find any orange material to match my IOM.

Yeah, I'm glad white is such a readily available color! How are you feeling about this though, do you think it'll work? Were you planning on putting your orange OVER the existing stuff or ripping it out and replacing it?

I've done it before on my last car, mind you it was much older but had similar inserts. They were normally leather but started to peel from age so I wrapped them in black suede. Worked out very well.

I'm not sure if I'm going to wrap or just replace. When I get some time, I wanna take em out and really have a look and see which way will look better. I might just take it to an upholstery shop and have them wrap it in leather.

Good to know. I think I'll just try and wrap them. If it doesn't come out the way I want, it'll only take a minute to remove it with no damage. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

planning to try this with leather, if wrapping it doesnt work you could peel off the existing fabric and use it as a pattern for the white that was my plan

i bought some used door inserts from another member to experiment with.

I want to do this in blue to match the IBM paint. Probably have an shop do it...

i did mine in red vinyl took the cloth fabric off and glued on the red came out really nice need a lot of patience to do it tho

Vinyl's an awesome idea!!!! It's easy to remove and I could replace it with the original cloth if I change my mind. I see you're in Jersey, not too far from me actually. Where did you buy get the vinyl from & if you don't mind me asking, about how much did it cost you?

I would take off the existing cloth then wrap it again.. never thought about it but i sounds like a really good idea for people who have 1ss/1lt
