There are 2 brackets that go in the corners behind the rear wheels. I'm sure its something that can be fabricated but the ones from GM are plastic and get riveted to the quarter panel.
I will try and attach the installation instructions so you can see them. Im on my phone right now so give me a few to get to a pc.
