Stock Crank Pulley Pinned???

I've been building a cheap centri supercharger kit on my own for the past couple of months using parts I already owned. I built the whole bracket and tensioner assembly and had it mounted and running with a belt but forgot to check if the stock crank pulley is keyed to the crank. I wanted to ask the members of camaro5 if they knew before I pulled the crank pulley bolt or assembly off to check.

Stock pulley is not keyed to the crank. Most blower kits come with a drill/ream/template/pin kit to install.

No blower kits for the V6. It would be nice if there was though.

Thanks for the info nine ball.
I've been wondering if the crank should even have to be pinned since the kit won't be making too much power(aim 350-400rwhp tops) and the supercharger won't have to spin too fast. The only reason I asked was because I see the V8 vortech and procharger kits include a kit to key the crank. Any info or suggestions?

I notice a couple of motors don't pin the crank on some factory supercharged vehicles. That is the only thing that is holding me up so far. Heres the latest pic of the setup I have :

Currently, the volute is not sticking up and the bracket and supercharger has been painted black. Also, I added an automatic tensioner. The supercharger will feed into a fmic.

Pretty neat, is Trifecta tuning it?

Sweet. I would still pin it. Have you checked with performance shops in your area to see if they can do it?

Vince at Trifecta said he can do it. Shouldn't be too hard to tune since the hp/tq rise linearly and most of the boost comes in at high rpms when the engine can handle it the most. I'm going to check with some shops in the area for pinning. I originally had the blower running off of a pulley attached to the water pump but if I'm going to pin the crank I'll be looking to create or buy a custom crank pulley as well. The blower ran fine off of the water pump but im pretty sure the bearings on the pump will give out faster than stock due to the increased stress. I know ATI sells a replacement balancer for our cars. I believe you can bolt a pulley on top of the balancer to drive the supercharger.

Post dyno and track times when you get them.

Does anyone know if the LY7 engine is pinned? In one of the earlier FI thread "Capa Supercharger Install Manual", Capa does not have the owner pin the crank when installing the vortech V2. I know our engines are similar and GM's part catalog does not reference any dowel pin or key for LY7 engines. I prefer not to tamper with the crank if I don't have to.

I would highly suggest it. You also dont want the end of your crank snappping off either. If you can get me some good pictures of the pulley and then some good pictures of the end of the crank with the pulley off. I can give you some ideas. We double pinned them on the viper's.

Killa, I think Nineball thought he was in the V8 section.
