ls3 cam experts needed.. opinion..

My shop has speced out a Comp Cam .224I/.228E with 581/592 lift and at 114. I told them I was looking for excellent street manners with a small amount of lope and good power and torque throught most of the range (1700-6800). I know LS3's have performed a little different than previous years ls engines and need advice from those that know..... I need advice soon as the cam will be ground tomorrow..

It'll work... nothing like I would have used on an LS3 but you will see an improvement in power over stock and it will idle pretty smooth...

Man you really don't want to ask that. Everyone is going to tell you they cam they have is the best thing since sliced bread.
There are so many different aspects involved it make things interesting.

It's like dinner, many different tastes out there. You need to do some research and then make a choice.

I did a LS3 cam test for GM High Tech Magazine. We ran the stock cam plus 10 others on the engine dyno. The story should be out in a month or two. It shows a wide range of cams designed for the street.
I think that your Comp Cam was the one we tested from Comp.

FTI-EDC knows his stuff, I wish I could have tested his cam also. Mostly advertisers cams.

new cam speced. Me and the tuner had a misunderstanding of what I wanted. he is now speccing a more split cam..

216/229 561/562 113lobe

He says this will work best on the l92 heads since the intake flows so much better than the exhaust with stock porting. He is also suggestion Com Cams 921 double springs and hardened pushrods......

We're getting a LS3 together to go on our engine dyno in the next week or so. From there we'll be developing some camshafts for many different applications. I'll let you guys know what we find!

FYI .. that is a pretty tame cam .. if your looking for some power gains and retain driveablity that should do it ..

We have a new line of LS3 camshafts that just arrived a couple weeks ago
These were specifically designed by Comp Cams for the LS3 engine.

Thanks Uncle Robin...

Sure would have upset the apple cart had you throw one of my sticks in that test.

BTW.... we need to talk soon. I have some interesting info on a new LSR cylinder head program you might want to take a look at.

Ed

Just to throw some more fuel on the fire.

Installing a cam in a 2010 Camaro isn't going to net the same results as some other cars. Unless you concentrate on the mid range torque this car is going to feel slower at low to mid range RPM's

In the past we have been able to install steeper gear ratios to get the engine into a different power band. That is not the case on the 2010 Camaro. We don't have an option of gearing.

Now if you want big numnbers from the chassis dyno then you should be good to go.

WIth a car that weighs close to 4100 pounds with driver you need to concentrate on making more torque in the low and mid range. That is what will make this car feel like it has a bunch of power.

Take a look at torque when choosing your cams.

Noob question here - is there enough room to swap cams without pullin the engine? Looks like there is. Heads have to be pulled on an ls3 right?
