155 if yours came from the factory with 19" pirelli P zeros. 118 if it came with the 18" wheels.

They only way you can do it, is you get a custom tune and remove the limiter, which will void your warranty. Why do you need to go that fast? If you get caught by the police you will be get a serious ticket or go to jail. Not worth it IMO.
Partially incorrect, GM does have a BCM Calibration for the 20" wheels, it costs about 75 bucks to have done. They have to call and get a ID for the BCM. It recalibrates the speedo and braking system to accept the slight change in tire diameter. Not sure if it lifts limiter though. I did not go this route because it was a small change. I did have a tune done, required after Supercharger, I can say that I KNOW I do not have my limiter on now..

Not all Z rated tires are alike. Used to be a Z rated tire was 149+ mph. That changed when cars started actually going that fast again. Z rated tires are rated in 2 categories. W and Y. This is on the load rating on the sidewall. W=168 mph and Y=186. The 20" Pirelli PZeros that come on the these cars are 103Y ft and 106Y rr, meaning they are rated to 186+mph. The 155 limit GM imposes is likely a 15% or so safety margin. When replacing these tires you could just as easily use a W rated tire and a lot people do. Just don't tune out the limiter and go to Bonneville.

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.
W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars

While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.
225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h

Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h

As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.

Great info!

Tires should be something you never cheap out on. It's crucial to have the right tires...for top speed and proper accelleration.

If you tune, you lose your warranty btw. Not saying you shouldn't tune, rather saying that you should tune knowing what the pros and cons are.

it's in the advert brochure from the dealers guys

v6 with 18" = 119, with 20" Pzeros = 155
v8 = 155
ZL1 = 180 (convertible = 155)

If that's true, then I would think that the 1LE isn't limited at all. The tires are safe at 180 mph, and the car can't get to 180 mph, so no "limit" would be necessary. We'll find out soon enough.

Are you talking electronically, aero, mechanically, or just referring all states have speed limits on public roads?

I don't know what the limit is on my 2011 2LT/RS but I know for a fact that it is over 140 mph :-)!
