I remember they required a racing license to purchase. But very awesome ideas, much like this Z28.

Wouldn't trade as the ZL1 suits my needs much better. That aside, I wouldn't mind running those big 305s all the way around plus I hope someone comes up with a kit to put those brakes on the ZL1.

I think the main reason the Z/28 is a little faster on a track is the tires, wheels and brakes. If they gave me the same price for a trade on a z28 I would take the money I would have to pay in sales tax (in Michigan we don't get to pay tax on just the difference, we have to pay it on the price of the new car) and up grade the Brakes, tires/wheels and end up with a nicer car.
I have a 71 RS Z/28 that I have since it was new (16 birthday present from parents ). I know its no new car with an LS7, but I never use it because it doesn't have air, rides like sh!!, and an 8-track tape player. Why would I want a new car that is striped so it is a little faster (yet to be seen ) than a really nice riding car with A/C and a stereo that is better looking. |

I'm not sure how we're missing the point given the question asked by the OP. When asked if you would trade one thing in for another then you're obviously going to compare them.

Fair enough, but I still sense a lot of people who are disappointed in the final product and surprised by the fact that the car is so no frills, yet will cost more.

I'm curious, how would you spend $5000 to pick up 3 seconds on a road course? |

Would never trade my ZL1 for a Z/28. With the refresh pictures out on the web, I am convinced I bought my ZL1 at the right time.

Easy. Tires, DTC-30 pads, pfadt sway bars and springs, Jannety 75hp kit, and H/X. Warranty still good and would kill just about anything all for less than $5k in mods for ZL1

Not only no, but hell no. Radio, AC, noise insulation, mag ride, auto, SAT radio, 9 speakers....better hood with ECF insert, better looking front with the halos, better looking rear with the 4 tail lights...way more HP and Torque, cool SC sound and boost....I could go on forever why I would not trade my ZL1 for that camaro. I would not trade my ZL1 for the Z28 if the Z28 was 10K cheaper....Which nobody knows what its price is yet.

Now, if you want to go the extra mile...put the ZL1 on a diet. Think about what they did to the Z/28. No A/C, No sound deadening, No Radio/Speakers, much less weight in the rear window, and lighter rims. There is your 300 pounds. Are you telling me you could not do that to a ZL1? Not that you would want to but if you added those things to the Z/28 do you still think it is 3 seconds faster? Nope. If you really, really wanted to match a Z/28 around the track and was willing to do these performance mod's and remove some stuff like they did on the Z/28...I would be willing to bet that the HP of the ZL1 and the few mods catches up pretty quick to the suspension and breaking superiority of the Z/28. Based on everything we have heard, the Z/28 is going to be north of the ZL1 in price. If it is more than $5K more, I just think it would be a tough sell over the ZL1 even for strictly a track car which everyone knows the ZL1 is much, much more. Just one man's opinion which could be wrong but I would try it before I paid more money for a car that if not at the track would be tough to justify owning. |

I would trade if it were possible. But it won't be as they're going to be very hard to come by and the dealer mark ups are going to be quite high I could imagine. For the price difference I could just stroke and bore my current block and do a blower swap and have a real beast. Just my .02

I put too much work into getting my ZL1 ,but I'm hoping to park a Z/28 beside it. We'll see.
