All we see is Dodge marketing "believe us" claims to drive pre-orders. Perhaps all these things are easily accomplished but it would be nice to see some actual production cars in the hands of independent reviewers.
Dodge cited the NHRA as having validated both passes. Rest assured that if they had lied about that the NHRA would have made it very known by now.

The PIR runs were not instrumented and the drag tests were done on an unprepared asphalt surface.[/QUOTE]

Has anyone found a definition of what NHRA certified means? Is it verified by third party, or adjusted for DA, or something else? Things like SAE certfied are well defined, but I've never seen what NHRA certfied really means.

What about the 11.2-second quarter-mile time that Dodge has been trumpeting to the world? Well, half a second (11.7 seconds versus 11.2) is the difference between a prepped VHT surface and the street. All Motor Trend testing is done on asphalt, while Dodge got its big number on the strip.
Looking at other MotorTrend reviews "on asphalt" for comparison:

GT500: 0-60, 3.8sec; 1/4mile 11.6 @ 125.7mph; 3871lbs - Manual
Hellcat: 0-60, 3.7sec; 1/4mile 11.7 @ 125.4mph; 4449lbs - Automatic
ZL1: 0-60, 3.8sec; 1/4mile 12.1 @ 117.4mph; 4051lbs - Manual

So a manual GT500 is still faster than an automatic Hellcat, and it costs $5,000 less? I'm confused!? I thought the AutoCat was going to obliterate the Ford in a straight line? What did the Ford run on the VHT prepped drag strip?
So Motor Trend puts out some numbers and that's the end of it?....LMAO

Different day...driver....etc...etc....too many variables to go making conclusions....You know Edmunds say they got 11.4 right?????

They had to start the Auto kitty in second gear??....Whats that?....lol....Driver mod needed maybe??

...and what will the manual Kitty run??.....At least they can start that in 1st gear hopefully......I wanna know what it runs because there are no numbers for it at all......ZIPPO.....

We need a put up or shut up head to head.....

....I want a stock 662HP GT500...on a prepped drag strip...I am sure it's been done already....but I want the stock Hellcat there also... stick and auto....same time....pro drivers......

Throw a CTSV in there too...for $hits and giggles......and a damn ZL1....yeah...

Then lets road course all 4 of these mothers...."F" yeah!!!!!

Roadie these till someone hits the damn wall....WOW!!!! You feel your heart beating....sweat on your head....YES!!!!

....No more arm chair BS....RUN THESE B!TCHES....HELL YEAH......

Ok...I feel better now

The interesting thing about this chart is that after 2+ years of owners pushing these stock 500s nobody has come close to the single 11:25 pass. I’m not saying it didn’t happen but with hundreds if not thousands of passes since then and nobody can come close? The real numbers seem to be in the 11:70s-12:00s range, which from everything I read is about the normal times for the car.
We will see where the Hellcat shows up when it hits the streets and local strips but I suspect its 100% stock fast list will be much more impressive than this one.

NHRA certification means that the vehicle was stock, or with Stated modifications on a properly calibrated timing system. At least one NHRA official had to be present.

Unreal...and now it's announced that the Viper will only get a 5 horsepower increase. So what is Dodge's strategy now? 5 horsepower isn't that much at all and what makes it worse is that it's still 5 horsepower short of the Z06 rating. I just find this weird, but at the same time....great for the Charger Hellcat and horsepower fanatics, lunatics and people like me!

Or even the dealer lot. It has happened before, when the SRT Challenger first came out.

That's very true, or better yet. During a test drive.

I struggle to understand Dodge's claim for a few reasons...

1) Edmunds test the 2013 Corvette ZR1 with 5.2 lb/HP and ran 11.5s @ 126.1 with 0 to 60 MPH of 3.6 sec.

How does the Hellcat run 11.2s with 0 to 60 of 3.5s with 6.2 lb/HP?

2) I saw someone post a theoretical ET calculation for the Hellcat based on weight and power. Calc says Hellcat is 10.7s but the same calc says ZL1 is 11.2s.

The ZL1 is nowhere near 11.2s so how does the Hellcat run 10.85?
