Underhood cleaning, need some tips

I will be cleaning my car in the next day or 2 after almost a month of nothing. Its been beaten and battered from the NJ weather. I would like to clean the engine bay and under the hood as well so what do I need to know before I go ahead and do it? Do I need to cover anything or avoid hitting anything w/ water or is it ok to just go in spray some degreaser and be done?

-Use your hands to get out any big crap like leaves.
-Mold aluminum foil around the alternator, sensors, anything electrical.
-Mist you hood down, then the engine (work top to bottom).
-APC to degrease, scrubbing with a soft brush (boars hair).
-Rinse.
-Gently dry.
-Take foil off.
-Go for a drive and the engine getting warm will dry the rest.

(Some people will use In and Out spray for visual enhancement.)

Dylan has it right. Well he is a pro ya know. I use that method and Adams products (the boars brush helps a lot)...if you have soft water at home or go to a pay and spray and use the low pressure soft water it helps to reduce spotting in areas you may miss with the detail. That vid must be from the new series detail CD??

I understand and the question comes up all the time on GM-trucks.com. I will put a link in there as they drive trucks and hot cars. Really a good job on the vid.

Great job on the video. You only show covering the air filter and mentioned "other" areas sensitive to water. What are these other sensitive areas other than the battery terminals? I see a few electrical wiring not covered in your video. I want to do this to my 2000 Silverado as well and know that my alternator would need to be covered. What else should be covered?
Also do you have a package deal for the products used?

That is about all you need to cover unless you have some aftermarket parts under the hood that need protecting. They have several package deals on their web page!

www.AdamsPolishes.com Good luck!!

Unless the wiring has been spliced into or the insulation is damaged theres no reason to worry about wiring. Honestly, you get more water in your engine bay driving on a rainy highway than you do following this process.

Some people will use tin foil to cover their alternators, but I haven't ever had a problem with one.

As stated above, all of the products are available on our site... most of them come in various wheel/tire kits. We don't have a specific "engine detailing kit" simply b/c the tools needed function for other purposes primarily and you'll really only detail an engine bay once in a great while.
