calling all dog owners - Camaro Protection advice

Hey guys, sorry if there is a thread about this already but I looked and couldn't find one.

I am a big dog person, have 2 of them. I currently own an old 98 jeep so it is no big deal having the dogs in the car. However I will be buying my new camaro in about 2 - 3 months. It will be my first NEW car so I will want to keep it in perfect condition. The dogs are used to sitting in the back. I am thinking move the seat forward let them jump into the back without touching the front interior. So what I need is something for the back seat that they can sit on that will protect against their paws and fur and whatnot. My girlfriend currently has this thing the bought at Ross that hangs down from the seat headrests and covers the seats but it isn't very affective.

So are there any camaro owners out there who have a dog and have come up with a good way to keep their car from getting destroyed by said dog?

I use a 9x12 quilted moving blanket, you can buy them for less than $20. Big enough to cover the back and seat area of the seat and thick enough that the nails don't poke through. You can wash them too.

HOWEVER.....that's in my other car. The dog is not allowed under any circumstances in either of the Camaros, even though the new one is a DD.

I bought the 'Solvit Waterproof Hammock Seat Cover' from Petco.com for like 40 bucks at the time. It has loops to go around the front headrests, but since the back doesn't have headrests I use bungee cords looped through the child seat hooks. It works out wonderfully, well worth it. It has pockets for treats, etc to carry around to wherever you're going. It's water proof, as well.

Best idea I had was to put all 7 in my trailblazer and not anywhere near the camaro. You take a chance of them scratching the paint and interior every time you put them in. Heres in only 5.

I have a blanket that I hang down from the headrests but I fold the back seat down first so the seats are not exposed and the dog has the option of going into the trunk to play with the trunk monkey.

I love my dog but she doesn't ride in the Camaro. I put her in the Impala when we take her somewhere.

This is what I was considering doing. I will only have the Camaro so I won't have the option of another car to use.

How big is your dog?

How big is your dog?
He is a 70 pound English Bulldog that thinks he's a lapdog when Animal Planet is on TV. I took his little sister, a 50 pound English Bulldog to Vegas and back like that.

If I had a dog I'd put in in through the trunk and have the back seats down. Anyone have any pics of this? I haven't gotta a lab yet because It wont fit in my Camaro.

Very cool - Both of my Mutts are around 40 pounds so that should work well.

wow. thanks everyone for the numerous responses. To all you that don't let your dog in the car...sorry...that's not an option for me, i can only afford one car.

@GatorJak, thanks, and I LOVE my jeep...but it's time to move on.

@Batmaro, can you post a picture when you get a chance. I am having a hard time visualizing what your setup actually is

@RandomHB - that thing looks pretty good but it still doesn't provide protection from the sides. what do you do about this? Also, since we have 2 doors not 4, how do you get the dogs into the hammock?

The blanket ideas are good but I was hoping for something a little more secure and sturdy.

I like the idea of putting the back seats forward but I don't know how practical that is to do each time (i don't own a camaro yet so i can't play with it to test). My dogs are both 40 pounds so maybe i'll just do the trunk sear down idea and get them in the car by picking them up and putting them in the trunk so as not to take the chance of scratching any paint (any ASPCA people reading this please don't take my dogs for dog cruelty the back seats will be down!!!)

Thanks everyone!
