How is your shifting technique at +6k rpm's? (LS3)

I've been driving manual for years. Either I'm doing something wrong or somethings up with the tranny or clutch assembly. I don't race or abuse my car. However I like to get on it every now and then. (that is what it's built for, right?) When I shift from 1st to 2nd, it comes out of 1st and into nuteral ok but very difficult to get into 2nd gear. Sometimes it even grinds. How is your shifting technique? Are you guys having to power shift or speed shift just to get a smooth transition to 2nd? Clutch and synchros aren't gonna last long if that's the case.

mods:
  • Solo Performance (straight pipe catback)
  • Airaid CAI
  • Hurst Short throw shifter (professionally installed at Hurst facility)

+1 Is it at normal driving that 1st to 2nd gear is hard or is it happening at 6k rpm like your thread title says?

I'm assuming that its probably something to do with the hurst shifter, I'd take it to them and tell them about your issue, they may have done something wrong. Just because they are professionals doesnt mean they cant make mistakes...

I can't stand skip-shift, but it's not that. I'm talking about +6k rpm shifts.

Did it happen before the Hurst shifter was added? Not that I know anything about working on cars but thought this may expand on the information you have already given for others to help.

yeah, i figured it wasn't skip shift cause of your title...

like were all saying; take it back to hurtst and have them double check it as you shouldn't be having any issues like that.

The grinding has happened to me on occasion. I couldn't replicate it consistently, but I do know it happened at least once with the clutch to the floor.

I've been playing with power shifting some and hope to get it down before the Fest. The last time she was out I kept the gas to the floor, pushed the clutch just to engagement no farther, and shift. Don't know if that's right or not but it worked beautifully.

btw, now that I think of it... I have not had any grinding since I installed the skip-shift eliminator. I wouldn't think that would have an impact but then again I'm a gurl. What do I know?

I have a thread posted awhile back about the exact same thing. Very hard to get into 2nd sometimes at 6000rpm but no problem in any other gear. It is not the shifter IMO. Really hard to swallow when you are on it and some friends are watching and it looks as though you missed 2nd. Looks as if you can't drive!!!!

My car used to do this 2nd mostly and even 3rd sometimes, im at 7k miles now and it seams to have broken in a bit, and I havent had it hesitate to go into 2nd or 3rd in quite some time. I suggest just keep running the car till things loosen up some more. How many miles do you have on it.
