Veteran of three deer hits... Northern CA is crawling with four legged agents working to drum up body shop biz.
Did it in a rental car once... one of the few times I had purchased the extra insurance. That buck leaped out of the bushes, landed on the hood... I can still remember watching that thing roll over the top of the car. Highway Patrol came out (because I fer damn sher wanted a fully documented report!), finished the deer off with a .357, and sent me on my way. The car was really jacked up, but drivable, so at the end of the weekend, I turned it in, walked away... no worry, no fuss. My buddy got hit by a deer... he slammed on the brakes, and was able to avoid a collision with a group of deer in the road. However, as he was stopped in the road, waiting for the things to move, one of the deer, apparently the self- appointed vigilante, turned and rammed the door of the car... dented the door in. Anyway... yeah, the only thing predictable about deer is that they are entirely unpredictable. |

you think CA is bad, I think VA has more deer than people. and I have to drive through a national park (wilderness battlefield) to get to and from my home. and I swear the deer know there isn't any hunting allowed . I also drive down a 55mph divided highway on my way to work, and nothing freaks me out more than cruising by one at 60mph standing on the shoulder.
oh, never slam on the brakes unless your absolutely sure you can stop. otherwise the front of the car dips down while braking and your liable to cause the deer to go right through your windshield. |

sorry to hear man... Thats why we have insurance. I got hit... yes the deer hit the back quarter panel of my car and it sucked! Try explaining a deer hit you to the insurance company. But the deer hair stuff in the taillight made my story valid... Just think you are ok and that is all that matters.

I am a police officer...carry my glock and .357 in the glove box. If this would have happened to me...there would be a bloody scene and a dead deer with A LOT of holes.

Sorry to hear about your baby. Hope it is fixed up good as new very soon. I see deer on my drive all the time and worry that I will meet this same fate. I sure hope not but it could be any of us. Glad you were not hurt.
