Random thought; would they make an automatic Z/28?
Thanks

The first 3 years, '67-'69 Z/28's were all stick, no AT available. The 302 cube engines would not be a good combination with an automatic tranny. They were very high winding SHP engines, low torque and would be a total DOG with a slush box. The 1970 Z/28 had basicaly the same 350 cube LT-1 engine option as the Vette had but the Z/28 DID have an AT option. The Vette with LT-1 was stick only for some reason. That seems kind of odd to me but that's the way it was. Z/28's have allways had AT as an option ever since.

I would hope not. If you want auto, stick to the SS.

If they use the LSA from the CTS-V, then they would already have an automatic transmission available (a strong, responsive one at that) to use. Saying this, I would definitely put money on it being an option.

GM needs to sell cars and with 50% of the Camaros sold with automatics, I think they would be hard pressed not to offer an auto. |

I would hope so....they offer it, I assume is what you mean.
It would do nothing but increase the appeal of the vehicle to more people. I wonder how many people pass on a GT500, for instance, because they don't want to drive a stick. |

it could only increase sales. so why wouldn't they? unless there isn't a slushbox that can handle the power. but I doubt that.

If that 6L90 works in the CTS-V, I don't see why it couldn't in Z28; assuming it'd be in the same neighborhood; power-wise.

Since the talk of the Z/28 is using the LSA from the CTS-V, I imagine they would also use the automatic from the CTS-V as one of the transmissions. Seeing as that engine/trans combo has already been certified for one car, it makes a lot less work to get it certified for another car.
And they should, cause the auto 'V' is faster than the stick. I have a manual SS (only cause I thought the cylinder deactivation on the L99 sounds like an expensive thing to fix), but if I could get 556 ponies AND the auto from the 'V', I think a lot of you 'manual guys' would get knocked off of your high horses. |
