2010 camaro ss ls3 vs 2004 gto ls1

How do you think it'd be if these two cars raced?

100% camaro wins with no difference in the driver mod. Gto weighs almost as much with much less power.

Lol not even close. LS2 would be a better race but unless the SS driver is a lot worse the SS will win.

Anal rape. The 2004 GTO was slower than the 4th gen F-body Z28 and Formula cars. That year GTO was a big mistake IMO.

My M6 had no problem walking a ls2 gto many times, street and track! The ls2 is pretty fast, very strong mid range but the ls3 pulls harder on the top end. Every time I shifted 3rd was when it was by by time.

The main crutch of the GTO is the rear suspension. It can be a finicky bitch to launch properly, and since a lot of the GTOs are very cheap to buy nowadays, every sideways cap-wearing mouth-breather trades in their IROC for one, and they don't know how to do anything other than smash the pedal to the floor.

Being ten years old at this point, keep in mind that a lot of these cars are now beat to hell, and those engines probably aren't in peak operating condition. I would certainly think that some of those GTOs that were so easily beat had over 100,000 miles on the clock, and probably weren't maintained the best, if at all. It is just like any other vehicle that increases in age: things break, maintenance slips, the car gets sold for a cheap price to a bigger dumbass who hacks it up some more.

Let's also compare apples to apples for a minute. The GTO is by no means "slow," especially when looking at the time it was released. Keep in mind that there was a point in time when the 260 HP LT1 was at the top of the game. Even the lowly LS1 GTO sported more horsepower over the competition. The Mustang had 300, the STi had 300, and the Evo was somewhere in the high-200s. You finally had the Magnum/Charger/300C in the mid-300s, but by that time, the GTO was at 400. So, it was always ahead of the game.

If you can look beyond the unmerited hatred of the GTO, you still have a RWD coupe with an LS engine under the hood. Stock for stock, I would hope the LS3 Camaro would beat the LS1 GTO. It is six years newer with a better rear suspension and a bigger engine. It's called progress.

I dunno, M6 LS2 GTOs are quick...they have the MN12 (Z06) trans w/ the better gearing and they weigh @3700 stock. And it's super easy to pull 100# out of them by removing tow braces, gas tank brace, etc. My 06 LS2 M6 had HCI at put 460+ to the wheels and it hurt some feelings. LS1 GTOs weren't strong but still can move w/ some cheap mods. Stock for stock, M6 LS3 > LS1 no matter which trans. M6 LS3 vs M6 LS2 is a drivers race, IMO.

There's a lot of GTOs where I live and all seem very slow. Also these cars are hard to get the down track.
