spinning tires in 1st gear @ 4K

Now that I've owned my SS for a year or so (about 5K miles now), I've been driving with the TC disabled just about all the time. I've noticed that on a spirited takeoff with no wheel spin that I have felt the wheels spin after I get to about 4000 RPM. I'm not quite full throttle, on a straight dry road, and my tires are in good shape (pressure @ 35 and good tread). you guys getting this too? at 1st I thought there must be something on the road, but it has happened to me many times now in many different locations.

I think I'm finally getting used to the feel and now I'm going into the throttle heavier than I used to...any other thoughts.

Also, I've been thinking about getting some gears (swap to 3.91s), but I wonder if i won't be spinning the tires more often...awesome problem to have...

stock SS only with CAI & scoop no tune...

Yeah, they'll spin on ya. The LSx engines are kinda lacking on the low end, dont really start making power till 4k rpm. Makes it kinda cool when you can get em to break loose in 2nd at like 50mph

You need some better tires my friend! I'm sure it's not really much of an issue now, but once you do the gears, they will want to spin easier.

Best regards

Quicker times and save on rubber. At this level of power, you tend to avoid no traction situations.

Haha, if you're spinning now, it only gets worse At stock power levels, some better tires might help, but once you start making more power, I think only drag radials will work. I just put some big fat Michelins on the rear and it still spins fairly easily. They do seem better than the P-zeros, though.

Nitto 555r's will break free in 2nd no problem and mines an auto.

I have 3.91 m6 with 384hp 383ftlbs at the wheels. estimate 450hp at crank. I can spin them when I want but only when I want.

What now? You sure you're talking about a 6.2L pushrod engine here or do you mean a gutless 2.0 Honda engine?

A lot of that feeling of lack of power at low RPMs is probably due to TQ management and the computer holding things back.

The stock Pirellis are don't grip near as well when cold in my experience. The engine does come alive more above 3500 rpm. Interesting comments on the 3.91s. I am looking forward to installing those, just deciding if swapping the gears, diffs is easier and also if the dealer can reset the speedo.
