E85?

So I was just curious how E85 would affect the engine, say if I put in a tank of E85 and then the next week a tank of 93 Octane is my main worry. I just dont know alot about it. I do know it generally gives more power to cars ( like a higher octane gas ) But that would really just be a side benefit.

Any input would be appreciated

HUH? E85 will not work in any production Camaro at all!!

1. The fuel system is not made to handle it.
2. The ECM has no calibration to run it.
3. Idiocy is generally not warrantable!

I figured it would mess with the ECM/fuel system, I just wasnt sure, most new cars are made to be compatable with it I guess Chevy decided it wasnt popular enough Oh well, I will probably have a new fuel system eventually anyway thanks for the info

Yes, the fuel system can not handle it. Stoich for E85 is like 9.6:1 compared to the 14.7:1 of gas. The stock injectors can not handle that, and you will run severely lean since the engine is trying to run at 14.7, not 9.6. E85 also eats rubber fuel lines and plastic, so youd be leaking, everywhere. Its not magical racing gas that you can put in when you want.

the LFX engine (not sure about the V8's) is E85 compatible, the rest of the fuel system isn't.

From My 2010 owners manual.
8-46:
"Gasolines containing oxygenates,
such as ethers and ethanol,
and reformulated gasolines
might be available in your area.
We recommend that you use these
gasolines, if they comply with the
specifications described earlier.
However, E85 (85% ethanol) and
other fuels containing more than
10% ethanol must not be used in
vehicles that were not designed for
those fuels."

You must believe everything you read on the internet. Eats plastic... lmao. What do you think the fuel tank is made of.

E85 won't hurt a single thing in your fuel system. You will need bigger injectors (and pumps) and a tune to run it.

On the stock calibration you could run up to about 30% ethanol and the long term fuel trims will compensate even at WOT without a CEL. Mixed 3:1 E10 93 and E85 would be around 29% E and 96 octane. I ran E47 last summer pre TVS, now I've upgraded the fuel system and plan on going up to E85 blown this summer.

It's not going to destroy the fuel system. I ran E85 in my WS6 for years.

Thanks for that I assumed I would need a tune, I just wasnt sure about the injecters/pumps and all of that. I wish I knew everything about this car but I feel like i hardly know anything

Thanks, still a bit fuzzy on all of this, basically I have gathered don't put E85 in it until fuel system upgrade, and tune obviously
