Also is there any benefit to replacing the original reservoir with one that comes pre plugged? (like the ones that come in automatic?)

Thanks, you guys rock .
Yes....that is correct. It's pretty straight forward. Hardest part is mounting the reservoir. The hose that you'll take off the original reservoir is a little long for the new one so you have to just make it kinda bend up out of the way. I wouldn't cut it though....that way you can always put it back.

I don't really see a benefit with replacing the brake reservoir because not only will it cost you more money but you'll end up having to do the swap of the reservoirs and then bleed the brakes.

I just put a (I think 3/8") rubber vaccum hose plug on it and then put a small hose clamp to make sure it stays on. Hasn't leaked or anything.....works just fine.

What oil did you remove? I didn't remove any oil at all.

http://rangeracceleration.com/Clutch_Care.html

Intresting read for those that don't think your clutch fluid can get dirty.

who do you think i sent an e-mail to:

Upgrading to a DOT4 fluid sounds like a good idea. GM now is recommending DOT4 for all Corvettes, including those whose owner's manuals state DOT3.

There is a list of good DOT4 fluids on my website’s clutch care page. I use two different fluids interchangeably.
(1) GM Super DOT4 expensive and hard to find
(2) Prestone DOT4 cheaper, widely available, including Walmart

Only brand to avoid is Valvoline. It leeches to black almost immediately.

Good luck with your car.

Hi i have been looking at your post's for a long time now on this forum, But I got the new camaro last month and noticed that the brake and clutch reservoir is combined into the brake reservoir. I am planning to split the two apart and give the clutch its own reservoir but am wondering if I can upgrade the fluid in the clutch to dot 4 instead of dot 3. Do you think that this would be a problem.

And i did this yesterday like i said in 1 1/2 hours and all the parts are $22.00

parts you need are:

#1 new reservoir from a GTO a Holden part # 92065790 list $19.33 but can get for $15.00

#2 a hose clamp, Range 1/4-5/8" less than $1.00
#3 a rubber plug for the brake master cylinder reservoir. $ 0.75
#4 2 self tapping metal screws for the new reservoir. $ 0.50
#5 And this is the end Dot 4 Brake fluid "Prestone" . $ 2.75

And that is it.
Thanks for the list. Much appreciated.
I've been searching for *new* parts to do this job, don't want to use some old stuff from a junk yard.

Ordered mine 10/19; just notified that it is now in (11/04) and ready for Will Call.

Yep, Back Orders notwithstanding, looks like it takes 2-3 weeks to come in
if it's not in stock at time of order.

Just to verify; It's OK to mix DOT 3 with DOT 4 Brake Fluid ??

Is there anyone here who is at least doing the fluid swaps from rangeracceleration.com and is seeing results on their car? Or is that just a bunch of crap . . . ?

that really works well, i wish i knew about it when i 1st got my car. Its very simple like a 5min job. i do it every oil change 5k miles and when ever i feel the fluid get dark. Also ever since i been doing this the fluid has been clear for a longer period of time.
No more dark black fluid and crud floating and sticking to the sides.

Right - the fluid has been clear, but does the pedal still stick on hard launches/driving?

Plugging the OE Brake Reservoir with just a rubber/neoprene cap and clamp gets me to wondering how it will hold up in a Panic Braking scenario. Is this setup strong and secure enough to keep from blowing out?

Outatime.
I bleed my breaks and swapping out the gm dot 3 for castrol synt dot 3 and 4. I haven't done a 3k drop for a while and would like to change out my rear t/a. However I do drive to redline and I haven't missed a gear and clutch has been good. Sometimes spongy but never stuck.
But I also have a new t/o bearing which helps.
